The Big Three..a must?

Do you think it is a must that K/S/M become the mighty threesome we all remember them being? Or should the people guiding this new movies series avoid that and make it more of a team effort? I know it comes down to chemestry, for the most part. but K/S have pretty much dominated the shows and movies and I wonder if that built in aspect of the past will live here in the future K/S movies...

Y'know Rob, I was thinking along the same lines yesterday and was going to start a thread but I'm glad you brought this up. Abrams is on the record as appreciating the chemistry of the big three but I am curious as to how it will play out in the new film and future films.

Aside from all of this other worrying that people have, this is my biggest concern (and I also haev an irrational fear that it won't make any money and the franchise will just die.)

The rest of the U.S.S. Enterprise crew should be much more integrated in nuTrek as a whole... they so often missed out in TOS, although they had such great actors, this time, with equally great actors, everybody should have a fair go. It would be more interesting and people nowadays can follow multi-levelled relationships.

P.S.
'K/S/M' stands for 'Kinky SadoMasochism', doesn't it?

Yes, there wasn't enough of me, er, McCoy in the films. More Bones! I loved Urban's performance in the recent clip.

The triangle of passionate Kirk, knowledgeable Spock, and moral McCoy was always where conflict in the stories centered. This provided different views for every story. I've always said Star Trek was a great format for film/TV as opposed to formula.

I think we should see the beginning of their camaraderie. We've all expressed our concerns about how quickly Kirk (seemingly) achieves his rank. Do we really want to see them become "I have been; and always shall be, your friend" close, in just the few years that this film covers?

Very good point Grup...and so I think any STAR TREK books that come out that cover this new series should only be written with that in mind and only be canon..meaning the events in the book should 'happen'. Not really for the general fan, of course, but for fans who read the books. I would read the book if I thought that in someway, what I am reading 'counts'. I know alot of TREK fans don't care for that; but I do.

But yeah..we don't want total devotion after one movie. But to see it grow, I think a book series that mattered would go along way to do just that (and generate book sales too)

I think that, as you say, we should see that closeness beginning to form. Better, we should see forming the foundation upon which the friendships will be based and later grow; getting it all at once would be rushing what really needs time and shared experience to develop.

I like that.

I've been watching TNG again and I've gone through the first two seasons in the last month and one of the things you miss over seven years is that good writers do an incredibly good job at not only developing characters but also developing character relationships as well. You realize that as you watch from episode one.

One of the most touching scenes of friendship and loyalty was at the end of Measure of a Man.

Data: Is it not true that had you refused to prosecute, Captain Louvois would have ruled summarily against me?
Riker: Yes.
Data: That action injured you, and saved me. I will not forget.

What a great scene.

A big time must.

I think the relationship of the big three is one of the major draws of OT that keeps bringing people back again and again.

I know some might think that Kirk/Spock could go it alone since they are so iconic, but Bones ties it all together. He keeps the other two larger than life charaters grounded so they never become campy or too over the top.

I'd have to say Measure of a Man is my favorite season 2 episode of TNG. Character development and those relationships between the characters are definitely important to any good movie/TV series

i think the triangle is very important but it is interesting to remember the earliest episodes while featuring the big three also had at times more of ensemble feel to them.,
we got to see the crew just hanging out together ect..

And also got to see them act..which, sorry to say, for me at least, made them go back to the big three..

K/S is the core. I'd like to see the minor characters other than M finally come into their own. Looks like U in particular will be getting more spotlight. I like referring to the characters this way. :rommie:

I think U is coming into her own because the actress who is playing her is smoking hot!!!
