Great News...

Variety reports that CBS & Warner Bros are close to a $260+ million deal that would keep The Big Bang Theory on CBS for another three seasons through to May 2014.

The three year deal would be for 66 episodes, at an average cost to CBS of nearly $4 million per episode. The Variety story pegs the licensing fees between $4 million to $4.5 million per episode.

I wonder how much the cast will earn per episode.

The always-accurate and completely reliable Wiki quotes:

"For the first three seasons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, and Jim Parsons, the three main stars of the show, received at most $60,000 per episode. The salary for the three went up to $200,000 per episode for the fourth season. According to their contracts, their pay will go up an additional $50,000 per episode every season culminating in $350,000 per episode in the seventh season."

Not quite up to "Friends" level, but if the show's still popular by then...

Can I be the first to say meh. Don't get me wrong I really enjoy Big Bang, but what I've seen so far this season it's been stumbling. The addition of the two other girls have stopped it from becoming too stale but I can't see them getting another 3 years of good solid episodes out of it. I hope to be proven wrong though.

I've enjoyed what I've seen of this season. Only 3 or 4 episodes have aired here in Australia. I look forward to more, as there is very little that I enjoy at the moment on TV.

Now let someone pour this kind of money into a good sci-fi space show or even a new Star Trek please?

And before anybody shoots at me, yes I know, Star Trek can't generate the same viewer numbers to justify this. So what?! ;)

The show should be easy to do 3 more good years. They are already making the characters more round than their initial isolated geek roots. Meeting Penny, Bernadette etc has the characters growing. So in 3yrs I'd expect even a *gasp* marriage might even occur for one of them.

I predict these things for the show:
Leonard and Penny get back together, maybe even marry. THEN Penny will have a big breakthrough in her acting career with a successful TV show or movie.
Sheldon will have sex.
Sheldon will not ever win anything against Will Wheaton except maybe in the very last episode.
Sheldon will win the Nobel price also in the very last episode.
Howard will become a dad and this way deals with his own parental issues.
Kuthrapali(sp?) will fall in love with a deaf girl.

Kuthrapali(sp?) will fall in love with a deaf girl.

It's already happened. Earlier this season, there was an episode where Leonard complained that the other 3 all had girlfriends, but he didn't. He engaged the "girlfriend clause" or something like that, and Howard's gf set him up with a body builder type woman.

In that episode, Raj confirmed he has a girlfriend. When prodded by the others, he admits she is deaf, so his inability to speak isn't an issue with her.

Amy was funny for a few episode, but they beat that to death pretty quickly. She's the kind of character that needs to be used sparingly... Making her a member of the main cast has been a big mistake. Bernadette is just boring. And I've never really bought the little group of girlfriends that seemed to spontaneously develop.

What? How did I miss that?!? :guffaw:

I know how I'd like it to end:

Penny lands a part in a big budget SF series. Kind of Firefly/Enterprise cross, with a brainy, kick-ass female First Officer.

She questions some of the science stuff on the show, says it isn't right, when they ask, she says, "I know these guys..."

The guys are asked to be 'science advisors' on the kind of show they've always loved. How could they resist?

They DON'T mess it up. Or nearly do, but recover.

The staff writers are so fascinated by Sheldon, they come up with a new race for the show, the Eldonites.

Sheldon likes the Eldonites, and wishes they were in every episode. He also wonders how the writers came up with them. He finds them "believable"

The guys become recognised figures, in an Asimov kinda way.

Howard gets to meet Kaylee Sackhoff IRL. And George Takei. :D

Leonard and Penny DON'T marry, but are very glad to be in each others' lives, and through the show meet partners who aren't douches.

Now THERE'S a final season for you! :)

Hey, in 3 years they might run out of "hilarious" ideas for The Sheldon Show and be forced to make the other characters more than one joke caricatures! So I guess this is good news!
