The Big Bang Theory set for 3 more years

I was using "whore" as a shorthand. You're absolutely right that she's never been literally played as such.

I could go on forever as to why this show just rubs me the wrong way and not convince any of you. I just don't think it's particularly well written.

I understand the reaction I'm getting. I experienced the opposite in Lost's last days. That show and finale are fucking brilliant but there's lots of people who feel really cheated and let down by it.

By the same token, I think BBT is only worth watching if I have nothing better to do. It's lazy in its jokes and characterizations. But it's obviously immensely populor both here and at large.

I'm probably as big a heretic to them as Lost haters are to me. It's the nature of the beast.

Sound like any fictional nerd you know? Other than like, most of them? It plays on lazy stereotypes and I just don't think it's a particularly funny joke.

The show's not a complete train wreck or anything, but the line between it and Two and a Half Men is a lot thinner than most would like to admit.

I have to disagree.

Big Bang Theory is alot funnier to me than Two and a Half Men, which also survived on a lazy stereotype of the womanizing bachelor.

Well I did say it's better than that show. Two and a Half is fucking abysmal. BBT isn't that bad. But the same uninspired process creates its jokes.

To offer a comparison, I think HIMYM is the best sitcom on TV. It fucks with time, character and decorum in the name of a joke.

BBT by comparison notes that Sheldon's a sociopath or Penny's a whore and that's it. There's nothing deeper to any of them.

Believe me, a show about nerds is popular. So I wish like hell it was better than a mediocre joke machine.
HIMYM is okay, but I can't stand Lily. Her hypocrisy panders top the very worst stereotypes of women and how they think. And that ruins the show for me.

You talk about lazy stereotypes. They aren't lazy. They're close to the truth, and the closer something is to the thruth, the funnier it is.

And as Commander Raytas said:
True. What I like about the show are the constant references to Star Trek, BSG and other shows I love...stuff that most people don't know. It might be condescending to geeks, but I don't mind. I think it's funny when Penny tries to make Sheldon feel better by referencing the new Star Trek film. SciFi in-jokes appeal to me, what can I do.

And in conclusion, the ending of Lost really did suck. So many unanswered questions...

Mine is when he's so proud of his remote-controlled telepresence robot, and it meets his hero Steve Wozniac, who tells Sheldon's robot that he'd autograph something for him if he had it there.

I rather enjoyed him burrowing into the ball pit at Chucky Cheese like a worm in sand and popping up to torment Leonard with "bazinga" when he couldn't catch him--or the classic Penny knocking back at him from inside her apartment

Knock knock knock Penny!
Knock knock knock Sheldon!.

On a related note.. Jim Parsons won a Golden Globe for his role as Sheldon Cooper.

Awesome! :techman:

It's my favourite Sheldon moment. :D

Mine would be when he gets the Leonard Nimoy napkin from Penny as a Christmas gift. His reaction was absolutely priceless.

The scariest Sheldon moment would be his Joker smile...*shudder*

It's that episode where Raj gets featured in People magazine, isn't it? Leonard told Sheldon something in the lines of "we're here to support him, not to kill Batman".

You're right, that was hilarious.

Jim Parsons totally deserved that award he got.

Every generation needs a Fonz/Urkel. Sheldon is the latest iteration I guess.
I just wonder how long it'll take for people to turn on him though.

My favorite Sheldon moment is the dialogue when Penny has dislocated her shoulder and Sheldon is helping her dress.

Penny: Now, you need to put my arm through the sleeve.
Sheldon Cooper: Okay.
Penny: Is that my arm?
Sheldon Cooper: It doesn't feel like an arm.
Penny: Then maybe you should let go.
Sheldon Cooper: Alrighty.

And yes, I'm aware that it's a tit joke and could be in any sitcom, but nobody ever said that I have a sophisticated sense of humor. :guffaw: It's just so well played between those two actors.
