i start to think about this every time i see it mentioned how "paraborg" mistreated the ST franchise over the years. I always find myself wondering if any of the other networks would have done any better?

which network would have chosen as a steward of Trek, and why?

Whoa, how did Paramount "mistreat" Trek? They kept it on the air for a hell of a long time. Enterprise would've been canceled on FOX within 10 episodes. Its series premiere got ratings that are in the same territory Heroes is in now--and they kept it on the air for 4 years.

its often mentioned, but what sparked this was reading the recent discussion about how there was never any sole "head-honcho" for Trek, VS Lucas for the SW franchise.

On a scale of 1-10, how sad is it that I thought this thread would be about accountancy?

I don't think I have any complaints as to how they handled it. It's been considered a top property since 1979, and the majority of what they've produced has been excellent.

You may fault some things, or think they messed up in the last few years, but I don't know how anyone would think Paramount mishandled star trek overall.

Enterprise would've been canceled on FOX within 10 episodes.

Yep. It would have been in a different day and time every week, and half of those would have been delayed or pre-empted because of football games, at which point FOX would have cancelled it claiming nobody was watching it.

Wasn't UPN the redheaded stepchild of the corporation that owned CBS? Doesn't CBS currently own the TV rights to Star Trek?

Aye, Viacom->Paramount->CBS

i dont really have any complaints myself, i was just curious if any of your opinions of the other networks might have done better with it is all.

NBC. Because their demographic (what remains of it) is compatible and they are desperate and not fussy. :D

CBS is the worst place for Trek. They are the least desperate network and their demographic is totally wrong for Trek. I can't envision CBS thinking that taking a risk on a new Trek series is a more attractive proposition than just being lazy and spinning off yet another CSI show. Why make money the hard way when there's an easy option?

CBS was my vote because they always seemed to be the best. I dont know if the other stations would run it as long as CBS did. But I'm not for sure because I dont apy attetion to that kind of thing.

I say CBS, were I to pick one. As said, they are studio connected. It would be wonderful to see another series, no matter where in Trektime it's set...someday.
