The Better Episode #2

Okay...AMOK TIME vs YESTERDAY'S ENTERPRISE is proving to be one heck of a battle. Both episodes were great, I think we would all agree on that. But seeing everyone's point of view was pretty cool. And, wow, I may actually watch them back to back this weekend....

Okay...Battle #2

What is the better episode between...

THE INNER LIGHT vs THE VISITOR

Another great battle here, I believe. Both are well written, and really well acted episodes.

Picard is zapped by a probe and lives another life on a world who's star is becoming hotter over time. He has a family, friends, and soon forgets his life on the Enterprise. We all know the twisty endning, and wow, that episode still gets to me...great great job. I liked how the passage of time is handled. And you really get to see Picard as a family man. He seems to reject that kind of life in the real world. But seeing him with a family and a wife really shows us the torment, I think, of being a career officer. Great stuff there!!! Still gets me all mushy when they 'lift the curtain' at the end.

THE VISITOR
This time Sisko is zapped by a warp field discharge. He is trapped in subspace and Jake is forced to go on with out his father. He truly is an orphan. Eventually he goes on with his life until he decides to try and rescue his father. Again, we all know the tragic yet hopeful ending for Jake(s). I still tear up on this one. I really do. I am a father now and I know exactly what both sides of that equation are. Tony Todd and Brooks, and Lofton, and the girl, all really do a great job.

So...what is the better episode....as Q would sway? "Whew, good luck."

"The Inner Light" for me, too.
One of Stewart's best performances and the ending just gets to me every time. Awesome, awesome script.

I am going with The Visitor. I think the message of father/son relations, and letting go, is more tangible, for me at least, than what Picard went through. I had issues with my own father, and now I have a son. So it gave me the chance to revisit both sides of the issue. Both episodes are real good, but I am siding with The Visitor.

And someone mentioned music. Well, while I do like Picard's flute playing, the Visitor's music is more haunting to me ,and also gets revisited when Sisko 'visits' Jennifer in what you leave behind..

The Inner Light. It's just a real epic story, one of Stewart's best performances (although his acting in Chain of Command is the best.)
the flute music.

the ending gets me too

This one is tricky since The Inner Light is my favorite TNG episode and The Visitor is my favorite DS9 episode. In this case I'll have to resort to favoritism. I like TNG way better than DS9, therefore The Inner Light wins by a narrow leap of logic.

I also go with The Visitor for similar reasons (I don't have a son of my own, but otherwise I'm right there with you on the other part of the equation). The Visitor is the only episode of any TV show to ever make me cry, and I've done that every time I've watched it.

The Inner Light is a very good, emotional episode as well, but I don't have the personal connection to it I have with The Visitor.

OOOOOOO sooo close!
"The Visitor" takes it, and since "The Inner Light" is getting all the props for the music, Im gonna have to say that the music from "The Visitor" is fantastic.

The Visitor. I never liked The Inner Light all that much. The first time though was touching...but after that it just didn't hold up for me.

The Visitor. There are two scenes in this episode that rip me to shreds everytime I watch it: The one with Jake and Ben in subspace, Ben telling Jake to move on with his life, and the last scene between them. "For my father, who's coming home." Beautiful.

Yes..I am SO with you on this one..those two scenes get me everytime to, and more so, as I look back on my childhood...and now that I have my own son, it hits me too..
