Not even close to being my favorite cartoon, but a great theme, nonetheless.

They released the theme on an album called Le Parc as but they weren't able to call it Streethawk because of copyright so used it as the title track.

It also made it into their live repertoire some years later.

Edit: Then there's Babylon 5...

written by a former Tangerine Dream member :) Season 5 main titles are my favourite version and current cell phone ring tone.

Christopher Franke, who also wrote the music to the Tenchi Muyo franchise, and the similarities always bug me.

I also have a soft spot for the original soundtrack to The Gathering, written by Stewart Copeland of The Police...

I couldn't find a version I recognized to post, but I like the Xena: Warrior Prinecess theme song a lot too.

It seems like people are avoiding nearly all of the movie classics: Star Wars, Terminator, E.T., Close Encounters, etc.

Here's a couple of other television classics:

I saw the Gathering when it first aired and I was stoked when i first heard this score because "Finally, a sci-fi show that isn't going to use pseudo-symphony music as its theme!"

Then the first episode aired...with pseudo-symphony music. :(

I get disappointed like that a lot.

Meanwhile, I add to the list something you young-uns might have to look up:

It has time travel and F-14s! It's the ultimate genre film!

I thought the early season theme of Andromeda was appropriately alien and futuristic...also nuBSG seemed perfect for a sci Fi series .... that wasn't BSG

I actually remember that from Seinfeld when George did a parody of it for his answering machine.

"Justice League" (Lolita Ritmanis):

Yes this one of the best themes in the history of themes. Really stirring! JL was appointment tv for me, and this opener always got me stoked. And on that note:

A couple of more obscure (and one's more dystopia than sci-fi) but still I think good themes.

Noah's Castle (1980). Love the synths.

I've become pretty partial to the TMNT theme remix used for the 2012 TMNT cartoon:

The original also has a fun tone that really sets the stage for the episodes:
