the BEST scene

No problems, Plynch. We're all here to discuss and argue Trek. To paraphrase an old expression: If you get four Trek fans in a room together, you get five opinions.
It's all good.

hmmm..TNG movie? My favorite TNG movie scene is when Soran is making that wonderful speech to Picard about death, when Picard tries to talk him out of doing what he was going to do...

Rob
I agree, if it's the line about "time being the fire in which we all burn", or something along those lines.

During TWOK, where Kirk sort of gloats at and goads Kahn by stating that he's "laughing at the superior intellect"

I'd vote for First Contact's Ready Room scene. In this scene Picard listens to Berlioz's Les Troyens and we see his reflection on glass (he's looking at stars, but his mind is elsewhere, earth). Then we hear a door sound (it's strange that Riker enters freely when Picard is inside) and see Riker's reflection on glass.

The part of Les Troyens playing at this moment makes the scene wonderful.

I don't know if I'd call it a best scene, but the shot of the landing party looking up into the sky as the Enterprise is burning through the atmosphere overhead is very moving. Hell, it's downright sad. :(
Very beautiful, but it's Bones' line that brings it together, and holds Kirk together.

Kirk: My god, Bones. What have I done?
Bones: What you had to do. What you always do. Turn death into a fighting chance to live.

What I really like about this scene is the way it echoes the themes of the previous movie, about how Kirk can always cheat death. Here he is, still cheating death, but the cost is growing each time.

"Like a poor marksman, you KEEP. MISSING. THE...TARGET". It was hammy, but I love the way Shatner did those Khan-mocking lines. Since I saw the Star Trek movies before I saw the original series, this was one of the first times I got exposed to Shatner's unique vocal patterns as Kirk and I loved it. :D

great choice Too Much Fun and Caisson...Shatner gets made fun of because of his over the top hammy acting; I think its what sets him apart from other Trek actors who took themselves a little to serious....IMO

Love this shot too. My brother and I called that the WHID scene... (What Have I Done)....

The scene with the Punk on the Bus from Star Trek IV. When Spock puts the Vulcan Pinch on him and his head falls and turns off the boom box...I love it!

yep..another great scene from VOYAGE MOVIE. I have seen people on this site blast that movie, but I don't care. Of ALL the Trek movies, its the most 'general population' friendly, and it is always a blast to see IMO..

Agreed. That's a movie that always brings a smile to my face, and one that you can easily share with friends and family who don't know STAR TREK backwards and forwards.

In fact, prior to the new movie, about the only TREK movies that non-fans remembered were KHAN and "the one with the whales."

Nobody but hardcore fans actually remembers the title of THE VOYAGE HOME. They should probably just retitle it:

STAR TREK IV: THE ONE WITH THE WHALES.

I bet the DVD's would sell better! :)

The one with the whales...love it! and so true.

I don't think the TNG could have made an attempt at a 'humor" driven story. And I think much of that can be credited to Shatner/Nimoy and their Kirk/Spock combo.

Favorite scene is Kirk's reaction to David's murder. He misses the chair and plops on the deck, which could have been hilarious very easily. Then, Shatner gives us three stages of emotion, one for each time he says his line:

(whispered disbelief, almost like he's telling himself) "Klingon bastard, you killed my son."
(louder, devastating grief, an anguish moan starts it off): "Klingon bastard you - killed my son!" (his voice cracks)
(Kirk gets to his feet with strength, rage, determination) "You Klingon bastard."

This is, for me, the apex of Shatner's work as Kirk. Even though his voice recovers, his face while wrapping up his communication with Kruge shows the depth of his loss. Outstanding.

Much as I know the "Khan bloodsucker" and "Khaaaan!" sequence in TWOK is really over the top, once you realize Kirk was playing for time, you can reason that Kirk is a really bad actor, and Shatner played the scene just fine...

Perhaps not as powerful or iconic as the many Kirk moments mentioned, but I liked Picard's emotional breakdown in Generations. His brother and nephew are dead and he is the last of his line. There will be no more Picards. I think this scene best conveys the point of the film, that everything comes to an end eventually.
It is especially poignant when Picard grieves for the things his young nephew will never get the chance to experience, reminding us that sometimes things come to an end far too soon.

No more Picards! Oh wait there's Shinzon. He's a Picard even thought he's a clone. Oops he's dead too. Well if Larry King can still have kids at his age then there's still hope for Picard.

I am purposefully omitting Spock's death scene, since it has already been mentioned and is very, very commonly cited among fandom.

For me, a favorite scene is Picard discussing the Ba'ku relocation situation, when he says to the admiral, "How many people does it take before it becomes wrong? A thousand? Fifty thousand? A million?"

Additionally, the final scene from First Contact when Cochrane meets the Vulcan ship for the first time is deeply moving to me, because it so well depicts humanity taking the first step toward not being alone in the universe, and human potential.

funniest thing i read all day

Spock's death and the 'death' of the Enterprise are two of the finest moments for me too. The uplift you get when Kirk beams up from Regula One was also great fun.

Similarly, the scenes in STIII that culminate in Kirk declaring that, 'the Kobayashi Maru has set sail for the promised land' and where Uhura declares, 'This isn't reality, this is fantasy!' are other favourites of mine.

Also, the little scene where Trek stalwart Grace Lee Whitney watches the Enterprise limping back to Spacedock was very sweet both because of her history with the franchise and because the look on her face sums up how the fans feel about the ship.

The Final Frontier 'temptation' sequence, and the poignant cut to the plaque underneath the sailing ship's wheel - 'TO BOLDLY GO'. What Star Trek is all about, I say.
