The best pilot in the galaxy! [spoilers]

What are your thoughts on Poe Dameron? Is he the best pilot in the galaxy because he's just that good... or because he's a Jedi? Is he related to Rey -- e.g. twins separated when they were young, so they couldn't be tracked down by the Knights of Ren?

(Yes, not particularly original, but that seems to be the tone of this new trilogy).

I really didn't see enough of him to know whether he's the best pilot in the galaxy or not, at that time.

He doesn't deserve to hold Porkins napkin though!

Best pilot is probably Rey.

I hope he isn't force sensitive, not everyone has to be force sensitive to be really good at something.

Rey is a non-Force-sensitive he? :wtf:

Oh, you probably meant Poe. No. He shall not be Force-sensitive. Nor a she. Not now. And for never more. ;)

When they intervene at Maz Kanata's, as Finn runs around on the ground you can see Dameron's X-wing knock off about 6 tie fighters in a row (in one continuous scene) -- after which Finn shouts "That's one great pilot!" as he flies off.

Yeah, that one shot scene of him destroying like 4 TIEs in 10 seconds was great.

I really liked his character, he oozed a charisma the other two lacked and it's a shame he didn't get more screen time.

Poe is awesome and for me is the new Han type character.. a dashing, extremely skilled (and he knows it) pilot who can make friends anywhere.

I really hope they expand his role some more because he's one of the few things that really worked in that movie.

Loved Poe, and his interaction with both BB-8 and Finn. This guy seems to really care.

I have a mathematical theory that at least on paper makes perfect sense:

Grandfather > Anakin Skywalker + Father > Han Solo = The Best Pilot In The Galaxy.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

We already know who Poe's parents are from the comics. Though he does have a force sensitive tree from the old Jedi Temple (seen in the Clone Wars) planted in front of his house. A gift from Master Skywalker.

Poe was my favorite of the new good guy characters, but that's likely more down to him being played by Oscar Isaac than anything else.

Poe is a cool character, unfortunately I have a feeling he's going to be killed in Episode 8. He just seems to be the most likely to die a "shocking sequel death."

I don't get the impression he's Force sensitive, nor do I see the point in making him Rey's twin brother or anything like that.

Poe's parents were a Rebel pilot (female, A-wing pilot) and a Rebel commando that retired after Endor. While there is the chance Rey is related, it is doubtful considering most feel she's a Skywalker.

Interestingly, Poe originally was supposed to die in that crash early in the film.

..."He’s amazing!” said Abrams.

“Sounds good!” thought Isaac, whose first experience in a movie theater had been seeing The Empire Strikes Back.

“He opens the whole movie!” said Abrams.

“Sounds great!” thought Isaac.

“And then,” Abrams went on. “He dies.”

“Oh,” thought Isaac.

*********
"I went back home [to New York], and I thought about it,” he says. “Then I wrote him and said, ‘Okay. I’ll do it!’ I figured it would be a cameo: I’ll come in, do my thing, and maybe it’s actually better not to have to sign myself up for three movies.” By that time, though, things had changed and Abrams soon wrote back: “Never mind. I’ve figured it out. You’re in the whole movie now.”

“I was like, ‘Holy shit! Alright, cool,’ ” Isaac says.
