I like to give those sorts of Shout Outs and the idea of Parker being taught her trade by the world's greatest made me think of one of my favorite movies, TO CATCH A THEIF.
Naming the character John Robie would have not only breached copyright, it would have been too obvious. Using Mr. Grant's real name seemed appropriately Leverage-y to me and, apparently, the producers agreed.
