The Australian Election Thread

Crook has just announced he'll support Abbott, so we're at ALP 74 Coalition 73, and still the whole thing rests with the decision of the "3 amigos", finally expected tomorrow.

Crook's announcment is a "well d'uh" moment and he's pretty much been lumped in with the coalition (by the ABC in their seat count at least) for a number of days now - might even be up to a week. Possibly The Australian too though I haven't paid that much attention there.

This could be a very healthy outcome for the people of North Queensland. They'll finally be able to get some real action on their gays problem.

I thought that Katter was most likely to support the coalition.

That was my initial reading too, but then he came out strongly in favour of the NBN; which incidentally, is about the only reason I care who comes out on top.

That and I'd much rather have Gillard as the face of the nation than Abbott. :shifty:

Finally! I'm watching Gillard's q&a right now and am feeling happier than even I thought I would (being one who was almost ready to leave the country if Abbott won). :techman: I hope this government can work out well and be stable, another election soon would just be too much :borg:

It seems that Labor Party has given Oakeshott the choice of one of two jobs. One is probably the Speaker, any suggestions on what the second offer might be?

All I know is it's a Ministry.

He'd be the wingnut of the nation. In more ways than one. :)

Well, the interesting times continue. Bookies say 12 months until a new election. Any thoughts?

well, I'm glad we've finally reached a decision, but in general I thought these two weeks have been very interesting and much needed in Australian politics.

oh, and this picture on the ABC just says it all.

I hope we won't have another election soon, and considering now that the government will have to negotiate every legislation before putting them before the house, it'll probably last the three years. I doubt Labor will want to go for another election soon after this one, I doubt the 4 indies will either (they'll most likely lose their balance of power), so I think these guys will try to work things out. It'll be interesting to see what the other people in the National will do in the next 3 years.

Gee,when labor booted kevin out of office they said that they couldnt win the next federal election with him as leader, well guess what???,they got rid of him and they didnt win the election by themselves.

They probably would have lost the election completely if they had kept Rudd.

for all the noise the coalition made about Rudd being dumped, his electorate cared so much he had a 9% swing against him.
