The Asylum's next masterpiece... "The Terminators"

I think they're pretty much guaranteed that places like Blockbuster will order X number of copies of whatever they make.

they make money through a lucrative contract with Sci-Fi
That would not suprise me one bit, if TRUE.

The Assylum has produced every Sci-Fi "original movie" thats not related to thier shows (BSG & Stargate) for about 3 years now, add to the fact that they also have contracts with Blockbuster & Movie Gallery/Hollywood Video (the latter two being the same corporate entity) it'd say it's true

How does Asylum continue to exist? Do that many people rent their movies to continue to make more movies? I admit, I rented Transmorphers purely out of curiositym and wish I hadn't wasted a Netflix rental. It seemed like a High School production. Transmorphers 2? Really? How do they keep getting budgets when a movie like Fanboys struggled to make to to release?
I think that they prey upon older people or people that may not entirely be sure what it is.

Woolworths used to stock Asylum film releases before we went bust. From my experience as an Entertainment Specialist at the company, you are pretty much correct.

Basically Asylum relies on three markets: The Elderly, The Well Meaning Parent, and the Terminally Dense.

Most sales came through grandparents buying it because the name sounded similar and they thought it was the real film, parents who said variations of " oh Tim likes those Residential Evil games, he might like Resident Demon too!" and idiots who see the dodgy cases and yet still seem to think the film sounds "kewl".

I tried to disuade those that i could from purchasing them, but unfortunately, when the real film is £14.99 and the crappy ripoff is only £2.99, the ripoff tends to win.

That's where I tend to see Art Asylum films as well: the discount stores.

Places like Save-A-Lots (discount grocery store, that specializes in "slightly out of date" or "generic" brands-- ie food knock offs of major brands), Dollar General Store, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar Store, Big Lots/Odd Lots.

I think we should start our own studio to rival The Asylum and Halcyon. One of us has to have a really big back yard. And one of us has to have a digital camcorder. And it only takes a couple weeks to film, so I'm sure we can find the time. All we need now is $1-2 million to pay for the actors who can't act and special effects that come nowhere close to the scope we're attempting.

This can be our opening lineup:

Public Enemy Number One (gangsters)
G.I. Assault: Viper Rising (military action)
Inglorious Nazi Hunters (World War II action)
Halloween Candy (slasher horror)
Last Destination (horror)
Saw Blade (horror)
The Sherlock Holmes Chronicles (modern retelling)

:guffaw::techman: CLASSIC!

Say what you will but they are making movies.

Don't be alarmed, but The Asylum is making the jump to Blu-ray:

In high-def, those Windows Screensaver special effects really stand out!

It's a pity that MST3K isn't on the air. Between Halcyon and Asylum, Joel, Mike, and the bots would have enough fodder for another 20 years. Cinematic Titanic and Rifftrax just ain't doin' it for me.

Considering their extremely low budgets and shoddy production values, I don't know what Blu-ray could possibly bring to the table other than making it look even worse. There is a lot of cheap straight-to-dvd crap that is on Blu-ray for like $10 a pop. How this movie would be a regularly-priced title, on the other hand, is baffling.
