The Assassination of Brady's Legacy By the Fat Coward Deflator McNally

Re: Decision on Deflategate

Of course the counter argument is: prove it. And prove that no one else was doing it if you're going to retroactively punish them without having caught them in the act.

Using the driving analogy I was using, if I pull you over for going 5 mph over, I could just as well give you life in prison, since I could argue this isn't the first time you've sped, you've probably done this thousands of times.

Kinda hard to punish them for crimes they may have committed without any proof of such, no? Not saying that if they did it, that this was the first time, but without proof of such... Kinda why the NFL conducted this 'non-sting' in the first place, to try and catch them in the act. And still bungled it.

Need some perspective here as to the 'crime' as well. We've had Aaron Rodgers coming out and saying they try and over-inflate, knowing the NFL never actually gauges them. Forget who, but someone else came out and admitted to paying someone to let air out of balls before a game. Seems like this isn't some super-secret thing Brady did, kinda has the feel of a regular thing going on similar to scuffing baseballs. And the punishment for doing this is pretty clearly in the rule book as $25k, so not sure how big a deal they want to say it was. Sure it will morph into one so the NFL can claim victory for a change, but it's never been a big deal before.

Real answer is to just have the NFL manage all the balls, like they should have in the first place. They keep them in possession, no funny business. Letting the individual teams screw with them ahead of time opens up this whole mess. Why not have a standard 13 PSI ball out there and call it a day?

Re: Decision on Deflategate

Oh, it's absolutely a partially manufactured "controversy;" if the NFL really cared they'd just use the K-balls.

Re: Decision on Deflategate

As an alternate punishment, they should force Brady to play for the Redskins for a season instead of suspending him.

Re: Decision on Deflategate

Was this report conclusive in any way? Enough to warrant a suspension?

I mean, I think they cheated, and Brady & Belichick knew about it, but solid proof is nice.

Re: Decision on Deflategate

NFL has had the report a little while, it also would have been nice if they had announced the punishment at the same time as releasing the report. The whole thing here about waiting for public opinion to weigh in before doing anything is bush league at best.

That's Goodell's MO, unfortunately. See: Rice, Ray.

Re: Decision on Deflategate

I despise the Patriots, and I'm pretty sure Tom Brady is Satan's Cabana Boy, but suspension over this? That seems ridiculous.

I think it is worth making a statement with a lengthy suspension because what if it had been done during a more competitive and important game like the Superbowl? The league does not want something similar to happen again.

I still have respect for what Tom Brady and the Patriots have accomplished in a Salary cap/Free Agency era, but they are superior cheaters too.

Re: Decision on Deflategate

What if it had been murder instead of just running a red light? May as well lock him up

Kinda have to limit the punishment to what he DID, don't you? Or in this case, something that more likely than not happened, and of which Brady may have been generally aware of...

Re: Decision on Deflategate

Tom Brady suspended 4 games, the Pats docked two picks and they lost a million dollars.

THATS UNBELIEVABLE. That is unfuckingreal. I am beside myself right now.

Re: Decision on Deflategate

Well, the last time the Patriots were docked a first-round pick for cheating, they proceeded to face-fuck the entire league minus the Giants, so...

Re: Decision on Deflategate

This is true. But I'm sorry, how do you fine the team, and take away picks when YOUR OWN FUCKING REPORT says that the team owner and coaches didn't know.

Re: Decision on Deflategate

For real, though, letting Brady play in that Super Bowl is so far beyond questionable, now. If it's serious enough to disqualify a player for a quarter of a season and dock a pick, you can't stall it out so long that he plays in the championship game.

Re: Decision on Deflategate

Shouldn't the colts get those draft picks? They were the team affected by the whole Deflategate thing.

Well seeing as how even the NFL statement says that they believe the results of the AFC championship game were unaffected by this whole idiotic affair....I'd say no.
