Re: The Assassination of Brady's Legacy By the Fat Coward Deflator McN

Sadly he's probably still not going to lose his position over the hilarious clusterfuck he's turned this thing into.

Goodell didn't lose his job after his predecessor had to step in and say "You done fucked up, son" with the Saints bounty hunting suspensions, he didn't lose his job after spectacularly bungling two domestic abuse incidents, he isn't going to lose his job after suspending Boston's favorite son. As long as the league brings in record profits every year (which it will continue to do), he will continue to enjoy the support of two-thirds of the owners and he will be secure.

Boy, I think we are getting closer and closer with every incompetent step...

Guess all that "Free Brady" shit can finally die a quick death, then.

The guy got railroaded by his own league. Please, if this was the MLB vs Derek Jeter and the MLBPA, you'd be sitting vigil out side the MLB offices. Don't give Pats fans shit for supporting their guy, especially when the evidence presented didn't add up.

Goodell absolutely exposed as an utter fool and Brady's reputation tarnished, however small.

win/win

If anything is proven by any of this is that it will happen again and maybe next time it will stick.

One can only hope. :techman:

Man, you guys don't give it up do you. This whole thing was just slapped down by a federal judge, not just on a technicality, but on the flaws in the ENTIRE NFL process.

One of the greatest of all time. You guys, and Shannon Sharpe, and Mark Brunell can all go cry into your Cheerios at this point.

Brady wins! I'm actually going to the game tonight against the Giants. Going to be a fun time there!

As a Jets fan, my only consolation is that his supermodel wife might be leaving him.

Course, he'll just get another one...

Tarnished how?

All the guy does is win.

Because this'll be part of the conversation. Was it before?

Part of the conversation like all the NHL players who had illegal curves on their sticks or the MLB players who doctored baseballs?

Oh right, nobody talks about those guys.

It will be a few more years down the line. At some point in the next two decades there will be a whistleblower type report of all the ways the Pats cheated during the Belicheck era, but by then it won't matter.

Re: The Assassination of Brady's Legacy By the Fat Coward Deflator McN

especially when the evidence presented didn't add up.

I would suggest re-reading Judge Berman's ruling more closely; any sort of Brady actual innocence argument was rejected. This decision rests purely on egregious procedural defects. In lay terms, the decision says that because the NFL failed to give prior warning that ball tampering would be harshly judged, they can't. Had Goodell sent a memo saying "Yo, knock it off or everyone is getting waxed," there's no notice deficiency.

I will say that for a union that's been repeatedly broken in CBA negotiations and is largely at the mercy of their employers, the NFLPA does really, really well at the margins. It's hard to overstate how hard it is to get collectively bargained system arbitration overturned. That's how badly Goodell fucked this up.

Oh I realize that in terms of the actual reasons that Berman sided with the NFLPA, and not the NFL, it's in the errors in the NFL's process. However, if you read any of accounts of the hearings where Berman grilled the NFL, it's pretty damn obvious Timby that he really didn't think the NFL had much of a case at all, in terms of proving Brady's guilt. Granted that he could not rule on.

Of course, I could go get a time machine and film the balls from the moment they were made, to halftime of the AFC championship game, and even if there was no evidence of any wrongdoing, people still would be convinced that Brady cheated.

Re: The Assassination of Brady's Legacy By the Fat Coward Deflator McN

Hopefully this win will give the NFLPA a better shot at getting back some power in the next round of CBA negotiations in five years, but I doubt it. I'm glad Berman vacated the suspension, though. Brady might have actually cheated, I don't know. But from what I've read, the way I read it makes me think there wasn't enough actual, concrete evidence to prove anything beyond a doubt, but this lawsuit was never about that. People who think he did something will always think so and people who think he didn't will do the same, so whatever. I'm just glad this backfired so spectacularly on the NFL. They went about this the wrong way and they deserved to lose because of it.

Re: The Assassination of Brady's Legacy By the Fat Coward Deflator McN

The players would need be willing to strike to give the NFLPA some power. I'm afraid the players are too addicted to the big money for that.

The union should be more willing to strike. It has consistently rolled over for ownership in every CBA negotiation after 1987.

The NFLPA needs its equivalent of Marvin Miller or Don Fehr in order to effect real change in the working environment.

Not sure what the relevance is in comparison.

In any case, if you don't think this is a line in a two paragraph Tom Brady bio I don't know what to tell you.
