The Ashes 2009

If Murdoch's going to go through with his plan to charge for access to online content his rags will need to pick up their game pretty significantly. That kind of article staying on one of their websites for several hours won't encourage anyone with any sense to pay for access.

Pop over to London and go for it, Revd. Lee won't be taking any part in the Test (please God) so he'll have plenty of free time. :D

I think he'll find pretty quickly that people will simply look elsewhere. The beeb is more reliable anyway ;) . His writers and commentators will lose exposure which will hack them off. The project will crumble. In some respects, you can't manipulate people however much money you have.

I'd love to, but London is too far away to 'pop'. Will be passing Edgbaston next week, though. Think he'd meet me there?

If he has any sense whatsoever he will. :D

I agree about the pay for online news thing. There are always other sources and people will use them. Simple as that.

re: Brett - not a noted bird-chaser...allegedly

re: charging for online news - lots of luck, Rupert.

re: England team - what...no Ramprakash? Welcome to the big time, Mr. Trott. Apparently you will be dropping Onions to make way for Fred.

re: Aussie team - Stuey Clark must be feeling really appreciated right about now. God know's what he's done to upset the selections brains trust. Actually, "brains" is probably the wrong word there...

Possible showers, I think, but likely to be short and light.

Pitch looks like it might favour pace after all. The groundsman swears it will give a result - regardless of the tide at Vauxhall bridge! Getting a TV tour of the dressing rooms this morning - talk about bias! The home team's space is twice the size and quality of the away team's!

 Word is Stuey Clark is set to emerge from the tin hut, so I am feeling a lot better about this game already. A steady hand is needed in games as big as this. Our rookie bowlers will be nervous.

Strauss, Prior, Anderson and Fred will be the keys for England - but they need help. The selectors have shown plenty of faith in Broad, Swann and Cook, but they've delivered nothing - surely one of them will fire in this game?

That's my worry - England can't possibly play as badly as they have in the past two games.

It's been a mediocre series, but it will be defined by what happens here, and the legacies of Ponting and Flintoff will be as well.

Bring it on!

I'm gonna watch bits and pieces of the first two days, as my sporting highlight of the weekend is the Eels vs the Tigers match tomorrow night, so I'm gonna watch the footy show tonight to see what they say.

Some rain here would be good.

It will be interesting to see what discussions will be like tonight and over the test.

For someone nicknamed "Punter", Ponting is quite crap at winning tosses. Oh, well. We'll see what happens soon enough. :bolian:

No, the kiss of death was picking Bell at No.3.

At this point I am literally worried about his death

That aside, wickets will be hard work here.

Apparently Watson just went off and is "unwell"...come on cricket gods, help us out.

Bumble : Watson's off with a case of the Jonathan's
Gower: Huh?
Bumble : The Jonathan Trotts

Bumble is a genius, someone get him down to call the cricket for Ch 9 this summer.

Full credit to Ian "The Shermanator" Bell to hang in there after some nasty stuff from Johnson this morning. If he can get himself a big hundred, the home side will be in a good position.

Still like the draw here though.

Excellent, two wickets fell, Bell and Collingwood, while I was watching Eureka on Channel Ten.

Johnson just got the massive wicket of Prior.

At 229-5, England's chances now probably rest with Fred...the stage is set...

Edit - no fairytale today - Fred out to another awful shot off Johnson. England have blown a great chance to win this test today.

Broad needs to repay the faith England's selectors have shown in him and hang around with Trott - who looks a very cool customer. He's done well - most of the others have thrown it away.

What with the stodgily slow bolwing rate and the huge number of no-balls, anyone would think the Aussies were playing for a draw.
