The Artificial Intelligence Thread

There have been recent articles by financial journalists pointing out that AI is very, very expensive and, since it is not "true" AI, has many of the problems of the existing use of algorithms. Moreover, the easy bits have been done. Any advance from here is going to be harder and more expensive.

Like self-driving cars, AI is an idea that has been around for a long time. Like self-driving cars, it's likely to be a money pit with no real indication of when, if ever, there'll be a return on the investment.

From the tech. companies POV, they are all terrified that someone else is going to crack the problem and reap the benefits. Since they are awash with money, they can chuck it at the problem. They do need to appease their shareholders and they do that with exactly the same hype all new technology gets.

Companies in general avoid making their problems public so articles and reports are likely to be good...especially in these days of journalism by Xitter and press release rather than investigation.

How long this will keep up is another matter. Companies pulled out of developing self-driving cars because it was good money after bad with no payoff on the horizon. Personally, I see "AI" as the new "Smart" : a buzzword attached to things that really deliver little or no advantage to the "old" way of doing it...but which are considerably more expensive for the user and which facilitate the collection of information about users.

At the end that's exactly it. The users become the product and data harvesting is very profitable

Giant Freakin Robot seems like a human-scripted AI voice, if only because there are so many inaccurate facts. There aren't the usually mispronounced words. Perhaps the script is phonetic where necessary or the AI has been trained to recognise those words.

Yeah I wondered that if it wasn't some scripted AI with a bit more effort put into it than most of the others. They don't seem to do things like mispronounce words that should be easy for a real human like some of the others I have watched.

No implementation yet as far as I can see and it might all be hype given the order of complexity could make it very slow, but it looks a promising area of research. It might help stop AIs producing dangerously wrong solutions. Instead, they should just give up - like a human should except most of us are afflicted by Dunning-Kruger syndrome (in its incorrect interpretation). I'll admit I'm way out of my depth, although I did guess that the geometric approach would use something akin to a hyperbolic anti-de Sitter space on which to map neurons. The use of oscillatory neurons sounds similar to the concept of time crystals.

Thankfully they still have the "do not recommend this channel" button. If they ever do away with that my days using YouTube will be numbered. ;)
I'm currently having to reject some recommendations that I've previously rejected. I'm also getting pushed a lot of stuff that's in languages such as Turkish and Korean of which I have no knowledge. It almost feels like YouTube wants me to cancel my subscription.

They've also started pushing things in my subscription feed from channels I don't follow, as they're "co-presenting" with another channel. I'm more likely to unfollow the first one than to add the second.

I'm being pushed a lot of very recent anti windows videos all with very obvious AI voiceovers..

Not sure what is there goal beyond shitting people off.

So every time I get recommended a new one I block them
