I got to pet a horse this morning! It actually wasn't one of the horses at the stables though, I ran into one of the girls from the riding club back in the neighborhood out on the street while I was riding my bike. It was actually kinda funny, because it was actually the horse's idea to say hi. I had stopped for them, and when they came over by me, he turned a took a couple steps towards me, and stopped, and his rider, asked if he wanted to say hi, told him it was OK and gave him a little nudge with her heels, and he came right over by me. So I asked if I could pet him, I figured came right over and was standing right in front of me, so why not, and she said it was OK. I pet his nose a little bit, and he was a lot softer than I expected, I though horses' hair was coarse, but he was really soft.

I'm glad that you finally got the chance, they really are like big-ass dogs. Take along some carrots next time and you will truly make a friend.
But ask the rider first if it's o.k. do not try to feed him or her from your mouth, that requires trust or you might get your face bit.
If a horse is regularly bathed, curry combed and brushed that is what you get as too their hair. But, I will not bore you with the sweet smell of horse sweat and leather after a ride.
Yeah, he seemed to be pretty well taken care of.
Ran into the girl from yesterday, who was actually with the two other horseback riders I stop and talk too, and all three of them let me pet their horses! I know this is goofy, but I've been trying to work of the guts to ask at the stables for weeks now, and here these three ladies let do it me with barely any effort on my part. And when I thanked for yesterday, the girl said I could pet him anytime I want.
