I think most people don't realize that rats are actually really smart and easy to train. A while back they had a show on animal planets that followed students at a zookeeper school and one of their big projects was to raise and train a rat. Jenna the cow at Life With Pigs loves it when her dad, Ryan, sings to her. Annie and Charlotte, not so much.
Oh, you have NO idea. Obviously, I was in the US Air Force, but I was stationed on an US Army post for several years, which meant I got to go out on field training exercises with them, sleep in tents and paint my face green, etc, etc, etc. This one exercise, they wanted to test mobility, so every-other night, we "jumped" the headquarters, that is to say, pack up all your s**t and move to a new location a few miles down the road to set everything back up. Well, about the fourth or fifth time we jumped to a new location, I was so exhausted I didn't bother setting up my personal sleeping area. I just found a spot by a tree, dropped my gas-mask on the ground and used it as a pillow. Next thing I knew, I heard a bunch of noise and opened my eyes to see it was just after sunrise. Someone said, "Don't move." I started to prop myself up, and they said, "Don't! Move!" as they pinned my shoulders down. Of course, I started to struggle, and someone else said, "Don't move," as he stood over me with a broom. I turned my head only to see a big hairy tarantula sitting on my chest, about two inches from my chin. Yeah, nope. Nope nope nope. He used the broom to sweep it away, then stomped on it. He got mad when I stood up and said, "Thanks, but you didn't need to kill it."
