Here in Chicagoland, we have quite a few black squirrels. Way more common than the white ones. In fact I'm not sure I've ever seen a white squirrel. Horse throws a fit.
When I was a young lad, I once captured a Box-Turtle, in the woods. They are beautiful and fascinating creatures. https://www.nwf.org/Educational-Resources I eventually let him/her "go" back to the Wild.
Darn'it. Losing childhood friends suxs. He and I caught and released a box at the "pond" back in the early 70's.
Where are you from? That is close to that timeline. o-Hi-o? Caught a snapper once outta the pond, and he tasted like chicken.
I have had friends from kindergarden up die from plane. car crashes, suicide. All one can do is "let it out and move on" but always remember the good times.
Montana? I've never been farther west or north than Denver. But I have raised rabbits. Pass the BBQ sauce.
Yes. We briefly raised rabbits too, until our dog ripped the cage open and had a 'bbq' of her own. Very wild food items we bbq'ed there, in order of my liking, deer, elk, black bear and moose.
Yeah, we had those but we coveted the Stream Trout. <lights pipe and leans back in rocker> 'Minds me O the time we went to Frozen Lake Canada. Back then it was a two hour hike in and out but son, those fish would bite a bare hook. Only took a few minutes to catch what we could carry out. lol
Had the same happen in the pond, the blue gills were so feisty...a bare hook and I tossed them over my shoulder behind the dam. They were crowding out the bass and the cats.
For real life unicorns we can't forget about narwhals. Suzie the goat apparently decided her friend Meatball needed some help.
