The Animals That Aren't Dogs or Cats Thread

"One of each, please. No, I don't need a bag."

It's likely mange
Yeah, that probably is it, it looks a lot like dogs with mange. It always kind of amazes me how many pictures of "chupacabras" or other unidentified "mystery" animals are just dogs with bad cases of mange.

The Dodo has posted a video about Pete the Zorse. I've actually been following Pete's owner Emma on Instagram since before she got him, and even followed along as she was posting stories from the trip where she got him.

Aren't zebras already a species of horse?

Members of the same "family" like Donkeys...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equidae
Yeah, horses, donkeys and zebras are all equids, but they're separate species. Basically, they're the equivalent of a dog and a coyote or wolf.

We actually had a sort of close encounter with a wild donkey, while out walking Gracie in the open desert area of one of the parks we go too. We've seen them out there before, but this was the closest we've gotten to one while we were in there. We had seen some on the other side of the fence once before, but all of the other times we've seen them have been from very far away.
We had been out for a while, actually following donkey trails, we had stopped to check out some crazy cactuses we've never seen before, and I look up , and the donkey was right in front of us staring at us. It was a little way off, but probably within maybe a couple hundred feet, if not closer. The funny thing is, we'd been looking for them, but had just stopped looking for them because we got distracted by the cactus. I had also been following Gracie, so I'm wondering if she was purposefully taking us to it.
I thought about trying to see how close I could get, but right after I said that, it snorted and one of it's ears twitched, so we decided to just leave it alone and go back to way we had come from.

I'm pretty sure they're all considered different species, they're just close enough that they can interbreed.

I think I kind of freaked my mom out when I saw the donkey, because I just froze and said "Oh, shit". I actually didn't even mean to do that, but it just startled me because I didn't expect to one standing right there in front of us, staring at us like that.

Wikipedia says:

I guess my mistake was in "producing fertile offspring", as mules, hinnies and zebroids can't procreate?! Do have that right now?
There have been a few cases of fertile mules, but it's very rare, Wikipedia only has 3 example, with the first one all the way back in ancient Greece. But, if you look up the genus they all belong to, Equus, it does have Zebras, Donkeys, and Horses listed as separate species.
The one that got me is Ponies, I used to think they were a separate species, but they're just small horses.
