Yeah, that probably is it, it looks a lot like dogs with mange. It always kind of amazes me how many pictures of "chupacabras" or other unidentified "mystery" animals are just dogs with bad cases of mange.It's likely mange

Yeah, horses, donkeys and zebras are all equids, but they're separate species. Basically, they're the equivalent of a dog and a coyote or wolf.
Yeah, it's actually wrong to call them different species, as they can interbreed.
There have been a few cases of fertile mules, but it's very rare, Wikipedia only has 3 example, with the first one all the way back in ancient Greece. But, if you look up the genus they all belong to, Equus, it does have Zebras, Donkeys, and Horses listed as separate species.Wikipedia says:
I guess my mistake was in "producing fertile offspring", as mules, hinnies and zebroids can't procreate?! Do have that right now?
