The Andorian Incident

I love "The Andorian Incident." When I saw those antennae moving, WOO-HOO!

And it was also the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Kinda glad to see Archer "knocked on his ass", poetic justice there. Yeah, never got over that line in Broken Bow.

Excellent ep, really classic Trek. The first ep of ENT I watched, at a con! I was of course completely taken with Shran and the Shran/Archer exchanges to me pointed to some excellent classic Trek in built into Enterprise (and this was true). I also love how this ep was used in future eps, very nice. I was completely shocked at the ending the first time I saw it, it was great.

great to see them finally doing something with a race that should have been widespread throughout the rest of trek but never really appeared.

This episode was the first I'd ever heard of the Andorians, so not a bad start. The Andorians, and especially Shran became one of the great things about ENT. One of the better season 1 episodes for sure.

Definitely one of the best Season 1 episodes. The introduction of the Andorians and Shran was, for me as well, its strongest point.

I loved the interior details of the Monastery of P'Jem and the exterior design is also quite beautiful. I think one of the best things about ENT is that it showed us more of the Vulcan culture and architecture.

The episode also features one of Trip's funniest lines: "I never met a busted radio I couldn't fix."

great.
The one where he says that to T'Pol? That really bothered me, too. I would have liked to see him try that, considering T'Pol is a martial arts expert, and since she is a Vulcan, she probably is stronger than Archer, too.

Jeffrey Combs is awesome at any character he plays. Shran was easily one of the better characters in all of ENT. ENT was good until the Xindi showed up.

Wow, you're one of the few people who would say that. Most people think ENT only got good with Season 3.

It bothered me then, it bothers me now.

I managed to adapt to it a bit after I had a revelation while watching TOS.. TOS is full of odd crass moments like that and so maybe this is humans are like after they survive the third world war? ENT to TOS, crassness.. and by the time you get to TNG they've gotten past that.

The "ass" comment does sound non-Trek and crude enough, but it bothered me more that our hero-of-the-show captain was threatening to beat up a woman, and really for no real reason. It just rubbed me the wrong way having a main character, and captain of the enterprise, utter a line that seems more appropriate from someone in a wife beater shirt on the Jerry Springer show.

That's what I'm bothered by, not the ass word.

Threatened to beat up a female member of the diplomatic group of an alien species, in front of his own commanding officer during what was supposed to be a discussion about his mission.

Idiot.

Oh, I agree that it was totally inappropriate. I just never felt like it was a genuine threat. Felt more like Archer just letting his resentment get the better of him for a moment.

I agree it was inappropriate (and I agree that Archer wasn't really threatening her, just venting).

However, the fact that it's inappropriate is why I like it. It shows early on that Archer is thoroughly inexperienced, which is the whole point of his character.

I completely agree it wasn't a genuine threat. But it was bullying. If I said something like that to someone I worked with I would be fired. He also directed all his resentment at Vulcans onto one person, a complete stranger. And if you want to pull gender into it, Vulcan strength notwithstanding, funny how he doesn't make that threat to Soval but picks the visually most vulnerable Vulcan in the room.
