The Americans is Delightful.

I remember Skeletor goading him to just do it. Without the teen brain chemicals released from a sexual relationship, she was going to get bored and wander off to #### someone her own age.

He tired not to #### her, and she started to pull away.

But I saw this when you did, years ago, and probably only remember (inaccurately?) because of how creepy it all was.

(A suggested Youtube, that youtube wants me to watch "Breaking news! Eric trump is staggeringly Stupid!")

Speaking of creepy... Martha Kent is Clark Kent's mother.

I don't think he's sleeping with Kimmy.

IIRC, somewhere in Season 3 she tried to get him to take a bath with her, and he told her that he had found religion, and wasn't going to have pre-marital sex. Or something close to that.

We haven't seen anything onscreen to indicate that has changed...?

Yeah. They've even prayed together.

I didn't think Phillip was having sex with Kimmy, just that things would soon come to, er, a head on that front.

It was an odd jumble. But the wedding was beautiful, and the darkroom scene was intense.

And there's a definite elephant in the room in Oleg's house. Oleg's mom seems guilty. I think @marillion may well be right about her.

I am ashamed to admit I fell asleep about a quarter of the way through the episode, but I had had a long night.. Will catch up on it tonight. I just have this feeling about Oleg's mom.. She spent time in the camps.. Ain't no way she's going back and if the KGB thinks Oleg's father is implicated in anything, she's going to do what it takes to protect him so they don't all get sent away.

It's strange how they're not really updating Paige on the new knowledge that the US was never out to poison food supplies - only that it had been "taken care of". They seem to want to continue fostering the hatred of America through false pretenses and lies of omission, even after they've both kind of decided they don't want this kind of life for her. Very mixed messaging there.

Agreed that the wedding was amazing - I attended an Eastern Orthodox wedding many many years ago and it was quite elaborate...and LONG! This was definitely an abridged version but still within the same traditions. They definitely did their homework on that - quite impressive - down to the crowns and reverse-crossing.

Great intensity in the dark room, although it didn't seem all that "dark" to me, w/ some ambient white lighting reflecting off faces and surfaces here & there. Aside from that though, the cinematography and choice of background music was extremely well done. I definitely think it's time that Pastor Tim be shown the door. I'm probably projecting and inferring too much, but I always found his fascination and general interactions with Paige to be somewhat creepy. Probably a by-product of his own uneasiness around her, her family and what they represent.

The impromptu wedding ceremony was both unexpected and touching. I'm not quite sure what caused Philip to ask Elizabeth to get married properly, but I suspect it has something to do with the Centre deciding that the two of them have to continue their field work in Topeka for a considerably longer time, right when they thought they were done with it.

While it's obvious, I still find it striking how different Philip and Elizabeth's meetings with Claudia contrast against those they had with Gabriel. Their meetings with him were warm, casual, and at ease, while the meetings with her are direct, terse, and containing the underlying sense "let's get the hell out of here already." Of course that's because of their past history with her, but it's also evidence of how Claudia handles the operations very differently from Gabriel.

Hooray, Tatiana is finally back! Hopefully because of her contact with Evgheniya we'll see more of her in the final episodes of the season. Granted there hasn't been anything for her to do with both Oleg and Arkady back in the Soviet Union, but I miss seeing her at the Rezident.

Looks like Pastor Tim is finally going to be moved out of the picture. I do wonder if he'll suspect he's being played, or maybe even his wife since she's the more suspicious one of the two.

That being said, I couldn't help but laugh at the darkroom sequence where they just skip over the actual film developing. Sure, we see the canister and the process has to be done in complete darkness, but we don't see the enlarge and that's not something you can easily hide. As a result it felt like (as it often does in film and television) the images just magically go from the camera to the prints. Ah, well, not a big deal, but it is amusing, especially considering the blankets used to cover the windows weren't sealed.

^^^ I noticed the same thing. I figure they didn't want to get bogged down with a procedural photography scene, especially considering how the rest of it was edited. The intensity of that segment would have been completely wasted if they really got into the nuts & bolts of it.

They're in "We're going to do whatever the hell we want" territory with this show now, letting it unspool naturally. And y'know what? I don't mind. There's been remarkably little intensity to this season and that's just fine. A 5-minute impromptu wedding sequence? Why not?

The Paige/Pastor Tim thing was interesting. I don't think that he'll be bumped off so easily, though. Something tells me that he won't go for the job opportunity, or either he or his wife will catch Paige snooping, and that will play into the show's final arc somehow. The wedding was a set-up for that, I think. Yeah, it was prompted by them having to go "long term" on Topeka so they wanted to symbolically reaffirm their commitment, but I think it's the show's way of them saying "We're together now, no matter what, come what may."

It's interesting how the Russian agriculture guy is now homesick.

Poor Oleg. Something is going to happen to his family.

The woman that Stan and Aderholt are developing as an asset...I forget her name...but good lord, she is adorable. I would seriously fall in love with a woman like her...who cares if she was Russian in 1984? She's just too darn cute, with her appreciative smiles, her giggles, and how genuine she is. Which probably means that she's doomed come the end of the season. She will make a rookie mistake and die somehow. :(

Looking forward to next week...looks like Stan is taking Henry to work. Now Henry wants to go to a fancy prep school, and he likes the FBI...how the heck can they tell him the truth at this point? Paige is on board, but he will never be. That'll be interesting.

I got the vibe that the woman Sofia who Stan and Aderholt are recruiting is stringing them along for some nefarious purpose. There was a cut to a close up on her face this week that I interpreted as a suggestion of that.

Yep I had the same thought at I'm sure the same moment!

As to the wedding I found it touching but I can't wrap my head around how Elizabeth choked it down. She has an aneurysm at any mention of god or faith and she's just gazing fondly at Phillip and letting super ultra god talk pour over her.

^^ Definitely against type... But.. She truly loves Phillip and because of that, she is moved and touched by this gesture and to be anything other than respectful would sour the whole thing for him.

Yeah... watching it now, I'm all in with the idea that Oleg's mom is the informer..

As for Sofia.. I'm not sure where this is heading... Maybe her recruitment by the FBI will unearth what the Center is doing with the defector's wife... It's a tangled web they weave...

A lot of agnostic/atheist types just let that go at weddings.

I thought the ending of this ep was great, you're reading all these things and feeling angry pastor Tim wrote them and also thinking they are all true. It creates a conflict in the viewer that the show has always used so well.

^^ Bingo... And this also makes me wonder what Phillip and Elizabeth's response is going to be.. Are they going to follow through and find Tim a cushy job somewhere far away.. Will they exact some revenge on him for saying such things.. Or will they realize the truth in his words and that becomes the final straw in their tipping point toward breaking away from the Center?

OR - Will they find Tim a cushy job somewhere, only to have him refuse to take it because he fears for Paige and thus, as her spiritual adviser, feels he cannot possibly leave her while she is in such "crisis"... Then they'll have to consider the option of "taking care of him."
