The Americans is Delightful.

I thought she beat her up pretty badly, IIRC... Phillip had his deep seeded issues with Gabriel, but there was still respect. Elizabeth has (or at least had) nothing but comtempt for Claudia..

Yeah, she beat the Borscht out of her.

"Tell whoever approved this that your face is a present from me to them."

Martha's back again with dialog this time! Now that Gaad's widow has told Stan that her husband would want revenge will he give the ok for Oleg to be contacted again? I thought that Tuan was dead kid walking there but he sounded convincing enough about what he was up to that it saved his life. Poor Henry..his parents have been so concerned with Paige that they've totally missed how much he's grown up or even what he's up to.

I think someone may have tipped the KGB that Oleg has been contacted.. Maybe his mom? I honestly don't see this ending well for him.

Great to see Martha back.. You can't help but feel badly for her and the situation she's in.. Tiny apartment.. Onions and a potato for a meal... I don't blame her for telling Gabriel to get lost, but I guess at the same time, I'd be grateful to have someone there to speak English with... He's not unsympathetic at all and could prove to be someone she can turn to.

Oh, my dear, Martha, my heart breaks for you. :wah:

("Martha My Dear" has popped into my head just now, even though it was inspired by Paul's dog)

At least this probably means we haven't seen the last of Gabriel, even if she told him to fuck off. There's definitely plenty of story to tell there, for both of them.

I wasn't sure what to expect from Tuan, but he made a damn convincing argument to Philip and Elizabeth, which is impressive considering both them unleashed their Russian fury on him. I was scared during that scene!

Interesting parallel with Henry and I don't mean against Paige. They're completely blindsided by his request to go to an out-of-state boarding school and have no clue how to handle the situation, but with Tuan, while they don't know what was going on with him, they knew exactly how to handle the situation. Well, at least until they got his confession out of him.

Speaking of Paige, this is a rare episode without her appearing at all. Has that every happened before?

I think they may be setting up the end of the series. Phillip and Elizabeth have to run whilst Henry is away at boarding school.

Well, we already know that next season (an abbreviated 10 episodes) will be the last.

So did anyone think that when Elizabeth segued from "Paige seems to have gotten over Matthew" to "Tuan is lonely" she was ready to throw Paige into the deep end with Tuan? Made my skin crawl.

But she told Gabriel it was a snack..

Clearly the most exciting thing in her evening :(

And, she knows "Clarke" was bullshit.

Forgot to mention earlier: I was thrown off by Kimmy's appearance in this episode because I had completely forgotten about her and didn't realize Philip was still running her as a mark. I can't remember how that storyline concluded last season, but we haven't heard a peep about it this season until now. Felt a bit strange for it to suddenly pop up now just so Philip could hear about the Soviets using the glanders sample they recovered as a weapon in Afghanistan.

Eh, I don't know. That seems like a stretch, even by Elizabeth's standards.

I've been waiting to see how the Kimmy op was going. Kimmy was put on a slow burn, when Phillip (I forget the name he was using with her, though) told her that he wanted to wait to have sex until he was married.

^^^ That was probably intentionally said in the dialog due to the overall ickyness factor of that relationship. Philip's disguises already make him look like a 70's porn star/pedophile - the one she uses in her presence is particularly disturbing, in an almost David Koresh (sp?) kind of way. I suspect the show runners were getting some particularly nasty hate mail over that one. Initially they seemed to just remove it from the storyline altogether, but they saw an opportunity to bring it back to specifically use it the revelation of a potential Afghan-pathogen connection. In fact, is this the first time we've actually seen Kimmy's dad? I don't remember seeing him before this - he was basically a faceless entity that they were skirting around.

I thought we saw Kimmy's dad at the open house?

Whyever they put it in, I thought it resonated well with Philip's realization that Paige was growing up and that Kimmy was basically Paige's age. It seemed like a shift in Philip's view of himself, having his role as an agent undermined, however slightly, by his fatherhood.

Yeah, I thought the same and I wonder if the show will continue to explore that aspect for the remainder of the season, especially considering Kimmy clearly still wants to have sex with Philip.

As for her dad, I can't remember if he was at the open house, but the way he was introduced in this episode, lingering over the framed photo of Kimmy seemed to indicate we haven't seen him before. Or maybe it was just a visual reminder for viewers because it's been awhile since we've seen the storyline.

Basically the equipment that Phillip is using at Kimmy's requires more-than-occasional maintainance and the only "valid" reason to visit a girl's place that often is if you're doing her.

There's no reason to believe that Philip and Kimmy are having sex.

There was an entire episode about how he had to #### her every two weeks to change the cassette tape, or the mission would fail. Phillip was told to suck it up and get the job done, and done, and done. But yes, he was not happy about corrupting a child younger than his daughter.

I thought Philip realized that he couldn't go through with it and decided to keep Kimmy's interest by telling her that he basically didn't want to have sex until he was married, because of the mistakes he made with his previous family. Or am I mis-remembering?
