The Americans is Delightful.

The veins standing out on Elizabeth's head!!

Yeah, during the sex scene a couple of weeks ago, and the yelling scene this week.

I too was waiting for the airplane to blow up. I'll bet we see Martha again in some way. Now that we've jumped ahead 7 months, I wonder how she's doing in the good ol' USSR.

Speaking of the 7 month jump, this episode felt like a season finale -- even though we have 5 more to go.

When it was over I asked my wife if that was the season finale...
Yeah, I got that vibe, too.

Regarding Martha, perhaps the Soviets believe that they can turn her completely? She might be able to tell them some things, but as a field agent she's useless now. Plus, the FBI now knows that Martha was a spy, they know what she had access to, and so a lot of the damage she could do could be contained. Maybe not all, but the Soviets would know the limitation too, so just how viable would her knowledge be?

Anyway, until we actually see her again, I'll still suspect that she's sleeping with the fishes. I really don't see how the Soviets could trust her. Maybe the writers will be leaving it open until they can figure out an excellent thing for her to be doing.

What if next season, the yanks horse trade to get Martha back?

And then she's being interrogated by the CIA for the rest of the season?

Naked Martha, squeezed into a chicken coop, and blasted with a high pressure hose.

Something to look forward to?

Martha will be living in a protected compound making blinis for her new man and pregnant next time we see her. Her surroundings will look sad and poor and Martha will look radiant and happy.

That was rather slow. The utter fucking over of the Koreans was painful to watch.

And OMG The Day After I was traumatized by that movie ! I wonder what it would be like watching it now?

Pastor Tim is an idiot. If they are bad as he suspects why would he want to endanger himself like that?

Don got screwed. He's going to be blackmailed into helping the Soviets and he didn't have sex with Elizabeth. If you're going to be blackmailed for cheating on your wife you might as well actually do it. Now he gets nothing out of the deal.

I was about the same age as Paige when The Day After aired and I never saw it. Either my parents didn't let me or I just wasn't interested in seeing it I don't recall. I don't remember kids being freaked out about it much. But I didn't really have many friends at the time so maybe they were.

Elizabeth is a tough character, a devout communist, and a killer. The way she was disgusted at her actions I think had as much to do with her losing a friend, and hurting a friend, more than what she was actually doing. That part was just business to her.

I was in my low 30s when The Day After aired. I don't remember being impressed by it, other than as a disaster movie with special effects. I was a kid in the 50s and a teenager in the 60s, and I never once took the whole end of the world stuff seriously. I read to much science fiction back then not to keep an open mind on the many ways Earth and humans can be destroyed.

One shoe that hasn't dropped yet: Paige finding out that her parents routinely have sex with other people as part of their jobs.

And that her mom at least may expect her to do the same someday . . . .

(Also, note Elizabeth's stone-faced expression while watching "The Day After" on TV. Everyone else looked troubled or disturbed by the images; Elizabeth just looked more resolved than ever to defend her country from the USA.)

Sorry to see Gaad die but it's not entirely surprising. Not much left to do with his character.

Glad to see Paige call out the elephant in the room: When will they tell Henry the truth? That struck hard in an episode that's all about trust.

Gaad's death was quite a shock. I figured they just naturally wrote him out. I'm guessing the Soviets figured that since he was now "disgraced" they could turn him? They seemed genuinely regretful that events turned out as they did. I hope we get some deeper context.

Sorry to see Gaad go. I would have liked to have seen the scene where he and Elizabeth meet again. The first time she kicked his ass. LOL

The Jennings family is coming unraveled. Something has to happen, a big something. They can't just keep glossing this over forever.

I noticed that Richard Thomas did the "Previously on THE AMERICANS" narration last night. As a final tip of the hat?

Nice to see Kimmie again. I was wondering what happened to that subplot.
