Well...fuck. Just one episode into the final season and I can already see how the board is set up for everything to end in disaster by the end.
I'm thrilled to see Margo Martindale is back in the opening credits! More Margo is always wonderful.

One down and nine to go and then it's over. That's to bad, this is the best thing on TV that isn't GOT. Philip and Elizabeth are headed for rocky times, and Elizabeth looks like she's about to crack. I just don't see a good ending for her character. Guess we'll see.
Wondering if the cyanide (sp?) pill is going to be used for its intended purpose by Elizabeth if things go south with her new project. The end is nigh for the USSR with the constant Gorbachev name-dropping and it's all going to come crashing down on her head. Just hope it doesn't take Philip and the kids with her. She's too much of a true believer to back off and she's leading Paige down a similar ideological path. I envision a violent death for Elizabeth, at the very least.

They didn't state the year, but during the montage, Elizabeth passed by some coming soon movie posters that included Wall Street, which came out late '87. I can't remember when the last season was but I guessing the time jump isn't more than a year or two.
When Philip is leaving work at the travel agency early to go get his message, there's a calendar on the wall that says "OCT 87."

Yea... I was wondering about the liberation and release lines and the wall they're trying to build between us and they won't win.
Maybe Elizabeth convinces Philip to die with her?

I too liked the use of the Crowded House tune, but the music overall seemed too overbearing. I understand it was a stylistic choice, but I thought it was a little ham-fisted.
I love Paige and seeing her training and starting to work very interesting. Elizabeth looks about one step away from a total breakdown. It's sad to see her and Phillip they way they are now.

Time jump deftly handled, and I was reminded again how borderline psychotic Elizabeth is--cut that guy's throat for really no good reason, just like she off'd that security guard several seasons ago. Meanwhile Philip has a conscience having felt truly bad about killing what ended up to be an innocent ag scientist working for the greater good. So many balls in the air here, but none dropping...!
There was a great reason to off the serviceman. He had Paige's photograph, which she needed to recover, and he was keeping it for some reason. If he had run a check and discovered she was using an alias, then that would have been big trouble.
I really did not feel sorry for the creepy guard.
Yeah he was basically trolling for jailbait and using Paige's (fake) school ID to leverage her into what normally would have been a very uncomfortable experience. Kinda glad Elizabeth clipped him, really. He was a pedophile and general sex offender in training.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. The whole conversation was pretty bad but the withholding of her ID so he could get a date was especially gross. I shed no tears when the momma bear in Elizabeth lashed out and killed him.
My only question there was that maybe he was just either playing the creep or letting his inner creep out so he could run a check on her. Just how suspicious was she? Dunno. It still came across like most likely he was just leveraging his position to take advantage. Even so, he could still run a check on her, whether to serve his creepy ends or for more legitimate reasons or whatever.

Yeah, it did. I wonder if seeing her mother's face covered in blood will affect Paige's outlook on the spycraft. She's already discovering other dubious aspects of the job such as using sex to gain intel, despite Elizabeth's attempts to deflect.
I thought the general looked familiar and it turns out he appeared way back in the first season. I clearly need to watch the whole show again because I don't remember anything about that operation, even with the minor details he and Elizabeth discussed.
I'm guessing we're not going to see Peter Jacobson (Wolfe) this year, considering Stan is another division and it looked like Aderholt is using Wolfe's office now. Pity because I've been a big fan of his since House.
The FBI sure picked up on Oleg fast. I guess Oleg isn't in the country on a false visa and they have him on a watch list. I can't wait for the inevitable reunion between him Stan.
