The aliens of Babylon 5 in the ST universe

If you want to see Star Trek vs. Babylon 5 (with fantastic space battles) you want to watch Star Wreck online. I think the only alien in it though was (d)Worf.

The First Ones including the Preservers, Organians, Q etc have departed. No more all-powerful beings in my campaign! Betazoids be afraid...

Then why bother with the merger? They are every bit as integral to Star Trek as the rest of them. More importantly, the Shadows and the Vorlons are essentially the all-powerful beings from B5 yet they get to stay?

This isn't the aliens of B5 in the ST-universe, it's the aliens of ST in the B5-universe.

I've never liked the notion of 'all-powerful' beings but the Vorlons and Shadows aren't all powerful, just far more advanced technonologically. In fact there are limits on the things we see them do: the shadows are invisible (possibly partially intangible), projective telepaths who can exercise mind control & mind wipes (through technology), and they use organic technology. The Vorlons can exist outside their normal atmosphere (or in space) for a lmited period, they are masters of genetic manipulation, organic technology, and telepathic technology, and the younger races have been programmed to see a telepathic illusion of a benevolent being such as an angel. In both cases the races' ships are so powerful that the younger races would struggle to win a firefight but that's no different to the Borg. I think some shadows were executed on Centauri Prime weren't they? Balok was more in keeping with the Vorlons and Shadows in terms of how tough his ship was, although he was probably a couple of notches below, while V-Ger was probably a couple of notches above when compared to say a Vorlon Planet-killer.

Trek has a tendency to place star-faring races as equal to the Federation, or off the scale. B5 had a bit more variety, with certain races having more expertise in certain areas. I dislike beings like the Organians who had control over matter on Quonos and Earth simultaneously, or the Q who can alter reality at the snap of a finger. Beings with lesser control over reality in a localised area aren't so bad. I can see how they could have reasonable story uses and its just like natural use of replicator energy to matter conversion.

Well I finally managed to download my pdf of Thousand Suns from RPGnow and, inspired by Robert Saint Johns idea for a Star Trek version, I decided to try out this idea for an amalgam universe.

The telepathy rules look like they should work out ok - characters have to make opposed skill tests to read minds and lose vitality every time they try, which is very Babylon 5.

I've had a crack at building a sample Kirk as at the time of Star Trek the Motion Picture. I'm tempted to give him 80 experience points (one for every episode he appeared in plus the movie) and was thinking of purchasing some extra hooks for him (hooks are story idead that allow you to add bonuses whenever they apply). Can anybody help me out with ideas here? Here's what I came up with so far:

Student of Earth History;
Survivor's guilt;
Only man to beat the Kobayashi Maru No-Win Scenario;
"You're too beautiful to ignore, too much woman";
"That's an order!" (Commanding Officer)

This thread inspired me to composed the following render, whether or not it's a viable scenario.

Spock-Vorlon-1.jpg

I just thought the idea of Kosh "facing off" Spock looked "cool". :cool:

Kosh: "If you go to the Mutara Nebula, you will die..."

Sincerely,

Bill

Thanks, Nasat!

I just composed the shot, arranging the elements and lighting. The Vorlon is from "Dodger", the bridge station and uniform is from "Xcalpro", the base figure is from DAZ (an on-line store) and the Spock morph is from, I believe, someone named "Porthos". (I'll need to dig up the years old zip file to make sure.)

Sincerely,

Bill

Lol! I love Kosh. Somebody should produce a Kosh soft toy that dispenses words of wisdom when you squeeze his little Vorlon tummy.
