The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

My 3.75" Black Series Clone Commander Wolffe is supposed to arrive today. I can't wait, and I'm grateful to my friend for buying me a copy of the figure. This isn't exactly the most up-to-date and well-stocked area when it comes to our stores' 3.75" Star Wars figure selection, so this Wolffe means one less figure I have to track down at brick-and-mortar retail or order online.

A Generations Arcee? I haven't had that particular problem with mine.

I'm not sure if it was Generations or not but it's purple and black and has skinny long legs. It looks female but the stupid legs kept popping off when you transformed it.

I also have Wreck Gar and he's perfect. I love the Junkions

Goomba.
Princess Peach with Umbrella Accessory.
Fox Mccloud with Mini Arwing accessory
and Pink Yoshi, presumably with Pink Yoshi Egg.

My Black Series Commander Wolffe figure arrived today! He looks awesome and is definitely one of the more impressive and original of all the 3.75" Black Series figures that have been released since the line started. He's the most unique of all the new Clones in Wave 7 and has the most interesting armor design of any 3.75" Clone figure in recent memory.

Takara just unveiled the Japanese release of Titan Devastator. They remolded a bunch of details: a new head with retractible visor, and new elbows/forearms on four of the six individual bots. That plus a better deco all around than the Hasbro version makes this the one to pick up, IMO.

They also revealed a Masterpiece Ironhide and a Masterpiece Beast Wars Optimus Primal. (Seriously.) My mind is kinda blown here.

The Primal looks like a bare prototype (not even transformed).

Improved Devastator is more because of the Jpn side designer Shougo Hasui. The man is passionate about his work. The MP-10 OP, Bumblebee, Soundwave, Sideswipe/Red Alert, Wheeljack and Smokescreen/Prowl/Bluestreak are all his work.

Hasbro announced something called Titan Wars at Botcon. Probably won't get the full details until SDCC, but it looks like a Fortress Maximus Retool at least.

I finally got Whirlwind for my MU Masters of Evil. 2 years I have been looking for this one and I walk into Walmart a couple of hours ago and there it is. Now I just need Executioner to go with Enchantress.

CCC.

Nothing on Titan Wars.

But more information on Combiner Wars.

Combaticons

Bruticus, like we suspected is mostly all remolds or recolors
Onslaught - remolded Hotspot
Vortex - recolored Alpha Bravo
Swindle - a remolded Rook and not Offroad or First Aid as we suspected
Brawl - an entirely new tank mold
Blast-Off - not a space-shuttle or Alpha Bravo, but a recolored CW Slingshot. Voted by me most likely to be replaced with a new mold in the TakaraTomy release.

Also a Legends Shockwave Targetmaster as per the Revenge of Bruticus Episode from G1.

Masquerade Autobots - For Combiner Wars Waves 4 and 5

Masquerade%20Autobots.jpg

Wave 4 are entire remolds of Wave 1 and 2 Stunticons (Prowl=Deadend, Ironhide=Offroad, Mirage=Drag Strip and Sunstreaker=Breakdown). There is also a White Prime named Binary Armor Optimus Prime.

Wave 5 are also Stunticons remolds (Trailcutter (who is currently dead in MTMTE) =Offroad, Smokescreen=Deadend and Wheeljack=Breakdown). n addition Hound as a remold of Rook (and Swindle).

There is also a new Autobot Torso: Voyager Sky Lynx!

The character that Aaron Archer apparently disliked has also being folded into CW. Transforms from a flying Dinosaur to Shuttle. Also forms a bipedal Lynx robot using the Combiner War limb.

SkyLynx.jpg

Sky-Lynx.jpg

Also a new assortment of legends figures including: Pipes (recolored Huffer), Wreck-gar (remolded/recolored Groove) who can probably serve as a targetmaster and also Buzz-saw who turns into a smartphone. Apparently this ties into the possible Soundwave and Blaster planned for release in Titan Wars. From the rumored listing there is also Ravage and Rumble planned.

Legends%20Figures.jpg

I'd say aside from Sky-Lynx the most disappointing year in terms of new stuff announced by Hasbro now that they decided to show off all the good at SDCC and Toyfair.

Edit:

The Japanese Press Conference at Tokyo Toy Show where they unveiled their Constructicons, MP Ironhide and MP Optimus Primal (looks more like a mockup).

Sky Lynx! i loved Sky Lynx. i'd maybe get Hound too. i'm just not as into Transformers as i once was.

Current transformers you buy in stores feel pretty crap.

I have some of the 2007 versions and they feel much more solid and, worth the money if it makes sense. Nightshift Optimus Prime is cool. I think that's the name it's all dark blue.

Aside from SkyLynx, Brawl, and the extensive (and surprising) Rook retool, yeah, it's a pretty disappointing set of reveals.

Out of the three combiner teams they revealed – Bruticus, Optimus Maximus, and Sky Reign – only three of the eighteen molds involved are new. Three more are extensive retools and the rest are repaints with new heads (and sometimes not even that). That's...awful. I don't think we've ever seen such a penny-pinching lineup before. On top of how cheap and flimsy the individual toys are becoming, I'm really wondering if collecting is worth it any more.

The sheer laziness of Blast Off is just galling. They just slapped a new paint job on Slingshot and without even any retooling such as a new head. They should just renamed him Rip Off. At least Alpha Bravo -> Blast Off idea required a bit of effort. This was just pure laziness and shows how much the design department lost their mojo since they fired everyone and switched them out with GI Joe and SW people.

Not even Takara is going to save the ass.

This is just the shit sundae they are giving the fandom these days. They are more invested in making more shitty Baymovies and less in producing good toys. And now they are running Botcon into the ground with Funpub.

Yeah, Blast Off is horrible. We knew going in that Onslaught would be a Hot Spot retool, and that Vortex would reuse Alpha Bravo, and that either Brawl or Swindle would be a reuse of Rook, so it was up to Blast Off to make or break the set and holy crap did he break it. Not just a lazy repaint but a repaint of the worst Aerialbot to boot. (Also, what's up with Hasbro not even bothering to remove the fire truck lightbar from Onslaught's legs? Holy crap.)

Somebody on TFW did the math and once you factor in what we know about Victorion, we're getting as many as 42 figures derived from all of 9 base molds.

Combiner Wars was pretty exciting initially but now it's becoming clear that they front-loaded the line with all the unique molds and all we're getting from here on out are retools and repaints.

EDIT: To avoid sounding too negative, Brawl does look great and I really love the sci-fi Jeep retool of Rook. I'll probably pick up Brawl and both Swindle and Hound and give them to Sky Lynx. Just hope that Hasbro gives us another new mold down the line to fill out the set...

Another mold difference that someone just noticed: Bonecrusher and Scavenger both have remolded knees. Cool.

Yes I noticed that too. Hasbro really wanted to keep costs down for Devastator. Takara's line is almost exclusively meant for collectors.

Takara might do a new mold like with Groove for Blast Off, but unless we are getting Technobots, we aren't getting anything new. And Predacons/Terrorcons/Seacons are just not feasible using the current CW model of reusing as many molds as possible.

Though I could see the Japan do a number of remolds of the current line for Breast Force from Victory

Agreed about Blast Off; he's the only Combaticon mold I dislike from those pictures. :p Sky Lynx looks very interesting.
