The 82nd Annual Academy Awards - discussion thread

Would love to see In The Loop win, but I think Up In The Air is a given.

EDIT: Well, I'm wrong. Both the screenplay awards have been upsets, I think.

Odd, in some ways; the makeup in Trek XI was great, but there weren't any radically different races or anything from past films.

methinks this was somewhat a consolation prize. I mean, Trek may just have been in the ten best films list if Avatar hadn't come along. just IMO though. I might be wrong.

I'm glad it won... something. I'm happy. I think the industry on the whole loved the movie.

Wow, where'd they dig up Molly Ringwald?

She's actually been a main character on a silly teen drama ABC Family show for the past couple of years. She's actually not that good in it, but that may just be the horrible writing.

My wife and I were just wondering that (DVRs are a wonderful thing). I kept waiting for her to say, "John Hughes took a chance on a robot like me. He taught me to love..."

Mo'Nique, to the surprise of no one.

Not that she doesn't deserve it. She was fucking terrifying in that movie.

Also, mmm, Penelope Cruz in her underwear.

Nice nod to Hattie McDaniel.

Mo'Nique wins -- another non-surprise. Are all the awards going to be this easy to call, I wonder?

But hey, if she deserves it, then more power to her (I can't say if she does or not -- I haven't seen Precious yet).
