I think that this will answer your question.I admit I'm quite fuzzy with the Doctor pre-Ecclestone (they never showed the old series in Italy), but I was surprised by the action-man angle. Was it typical of the Third Doctor?

is it just me or is that a very blurry poor quality Klingon at 0:23, and I want the 11th Doctor to be like the 3rd in this respect
Mat Smith's Doctor doing Venusian Akido? Yeah, I can see that, that could work.
as I said blury poor quality Klingon look a like.is it just me or is that a very blurry poor quality Klingon at 0:23, and I want the 11th Doctor to be like the 3rd in this respect
It's an Ogron. One of a race of brutish creatures used by the Daleks because of their exceptional strength and low risk of rebellion. The latter is not so much out of loyalty, but because they are so thick that once given orders it never occurs to them to do anything else.

I've heard a number of people complain about hating British television in general. It's died down a bit as Americans are exposed to more British programs, and are more willing to watch foreign television shows in general. The popularity of anime, coincidentally, having a lot to do with the latter reason. It's like saying the British shouldn't bother with Doctor Who just because of some bad British show.
To the average person all anime is either Pokemon, tentacle porn, or Pokemon tentacle porn. There are several anime animation styles. Pokemon isn't on the same level as a Miyazaki film.
