The 23rd Century Romulans

BorgPhil

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Do we think they will get involved at all? Obviously if things happen as we expect them to, they will be in the middle of their isolation period following the Earth-Romulan war and pre-Balance of Terror.

I'm sure if something big was happening on Vulcan, they'd have eyes in place to notice?

My guess would be not. I think the focus is going to be on Nero and his batch of Romulans causing havoc, I doubt that 23rd century Romulans will get actively involved unless one of Nero's actions pushes it in to play.

Watch the movie.

What's wrong with some idle fan speculation?

I assume we think that one of Nero's objectives will be to make the Romulans stronger, so I reckon it's pretty safe to assume that if he succeeds in weakening the Federation/Klingons, the Romulans will re-emerge earlier than they did in TOS.

Although ofc, it could end up giving the Federation/Klingons a much earlier reason to form an alliance

I don't think we're going to see them.

They wouldn't be working directly with Nero, as he would be an unknown quantity to them. So that adds another faction, which makes things confusing and bogs down the plot.

This movie isn't going to be overly long, and it's for new fans. They won't add things to complicate matters unnecessarily.

I agree.

We don't know what Nero's motives are, or if he is even "pursposefully" trying to alter the timeline to make Romulus a greater power (perhaps altering the timeline was just a by-product of some other plan -- i.e. an "accident" or simply collateral damage).

I have a feeling Nero is doing whatever he is doing strictly for his personal gain, and is not trying to help the Romulans become more powerful by changinh Kirk's history.

come on ppl post some pics, I want to see what JJ came with ???
Most of the pics and other materials released to date can be found here, including trailers and screencaps:

...as well as scattered throughout numerous threads in this forum.

See also: http://www.startrekmovie.com/ and http://boldlygo.intel.com/ for more stuff, including wallpapers and other downloadables, and go to http://www.trektoday.com/ and http://trekmovie.com/ for news and links. There's really nothing hinting at 23rd-century Romulans, though.

I kind of assumed the 23rd century Romulans WOULD be involved, that Nero basically came back in time to start a bigger and stronger Romulan Empire that wouldn't make the same mistakes. Sort of like they did on Babylon 5 that one time where that deadpan guy went a thousand years into the past and turned out to be Jesus or something.
