I've always wanted The Doctor to wear a kilt as part of his costume... not too sure how Smith will look but it can't be no worse than six or forth's last costume

Ah, the outfit that got me to quit watching Doctor Who in the 80s.

So, you were into Doctor Who solely for the clothes?
Back when I was a kid I thought it was kind of... charming.
Of course I didn't really know any better, having not seen any of the other Doctors yet.
Dark red trousers tucked into retro wrestling bots with a blue Hawaiian shirt and a big white fur coat.

I say.. mix both...
Maybe a nice white shirt (take the collar off, leave a few buttons out and roll the cuffs over the jacket sleeves for extra visual interest), put a waistcoat on that that could be switched around for variation of colour etc and a greyish pair of trousers that might match anything...
Then a custom job coat. Put in some BBC Perdiod Drama elements, play with them a little, add a dash of Silent Bob-ish black, and give it a dark red velourish base.
Put all that together and you have what happened to show up on a piece of paper when I was bored a few minutes ago. I need to find something more constructive to do.
After a more down to earth look you'd have the chance to keep a few modern elements, throw in some weak link to history and create something that looks a bit strange - a man who's trying to be human but is a bit off the mark.

I cheated traced his PR photo first. I still have the notepad next to me and suddenly want to make that coat.
I suspect that his attire in the released promo pic is a close approximation of what we'll end up with.
I think this Doctor should just flat out wear armor from the middle ages. He's a time traveler, you know. "That's right; I'm wearing chain mail. I'm bringing it back."
Given how much effort went into both Ecclston and Tennant's look I'd be surprised if they've even settled on it yet, although as I've said that look does seem to suit him so if its a slightly more eccentric variation of that I'd be ok with that.
My thought was shorter than Tennants, longer than Eccelstons. I tend to think it looks a tad more interesting, but... I did see a photo of Mickey Rourke at the UK pemiere of the Wrestler in a velvet jacket which might work as being 'different'. Though it does look a bit Jon Pertwee...
Oddly enough... I wouldn't mind seeing that happening if the Doctor turned out to be a little 'off' post-regeneration.
That or King George's outfit in Coffy. Hat included.
I was thinking thee would be a knee jerk "Fu<kyou" reaction to how we'd obviously assume that they'd go emo goth, just because they hired a guy with hair loke that.

No, but that outfit distracted from the positive aspects of the show. JNT seemed to be trying to push back the age demographic by 10 years. I also hated the question mark umbrella of doctor number 7.
