Like eyeresist said, I don't think Terra Prime made it that explicit Trip and T'Pol would marry and have children. The hand holding indicates they want to be together but this and actually making it work are two different things. Death of a child aside, they both had a lot of issues to overcome. That said, TATV should have given some explanation for the breakup.
With most bad TV, the memories and emotions fade over time. TATV is the only episode that I got more angry about over time because less and less things made sense as I thought of it. This and there was no real sense of closure.
