The 10 Doctors is Over

more originality and thought than some of RTDs stories.
When does this start to become obvious? Because I've read the first third of it, and so far all I see is an avalanche of fanservice wrapped around a standard Big Epic Plot. Which is fine-- you don't read a story called "The Ten Doctors" expecting anything else, and the writing is charming in its way-- but I don't yet see any particular originality or thought.

It never does. It's just a very entertaining piece of fanwank, and the author is pretty good at getting the different voices of the Doctor right, and that's absolutely fine. It has no originality whatsoever, though, and it doesn't claim to have any. I'm much more interested in Russel T. Davies, OBE's stories, honestly.

He is, isn't he? Occasionally with the classic Doctors some of the language is a bit slangier than it should be, but mostly it's good. Considering his chosen art style, the likenesses are very nice as well.

I have to admit, it's going to be hard not to have a new "Ten Doctors" installment as a part of my day any more. The author really nailed the voice of each incarnation and his art was spot on.

Thumbs up, Rich! Thanks for a great two and a half years!

that story contained more fan-wank and gratuitous cameos than every RTD finale going. when Nyssa turned up i thought it didn't just take the biscuit, but the entire McVitie's factory. THEN the meddling monk, Toymaker and Omega appear and it managed to take every biscuit factory on the planet...

I liked the comic, the author really got the characters right, however there are some disagreement i have with like the fact he prefers the horrible Dimensions In Time special as canon more than the Big Finish audio dramas which had better Who stories in my opinion.

I love this webcomic, and while I'm sad it's finally over, I enjoyed the journey very much. I just downloaded the PDFs for the entire run and donated to his site.

He promises more Doctor Who in the future, so I'll keep an eye out for it.

Ahaha, I totally forgot posting that. I found a couple of coloured pages but I fell in love with the rough n' ready art style anyway.

This is a bloody good read, I'm on page 147!

^ I'm up to 27. Aside from one tny niggling detail, I'm enjoying it. the huge sweep of the Doctors' history, friend and foe. It's been put together really well.

The one tiny detail? His Sontaran is too tall - they're a bunch of short arses. Aside from that, te BBC should turn it into an animation, using screencapas and CGI.

It's fanwanky as hell but he's actually done a brilliant job of bringing all these elements together. When he trotted out The Mechanoids I almost fell on the floor laughing.

My only problem with the writing is with the characterisation of the 4th Doctor. His interpretation is very hit and miss - sometimes he's spot on, others he's completely off the mark, writing him more like the 6th. I can't remember the exact words but there's a scene where:

The 4th Doctor jokes that mutants and green blobs (words to that effect) don't count as "life", ie, when there's a massive space battle happening in which hundreds of aliens are being slaughtered.

This is supposed to be the same Doctor who was so conflicted about whether to commit retroactive genocide on the Daleks - "do I have the right?". I think the writer may have forgotten some fundamentals about the character, not just the 4th but the Doctor in general.

I don't remember the moment as you describe, but I'll agree his Number Four is spotty at times. Of course, I can't blame him. It's Tom Baker of all people. Ever tried writing the 4th Doctor's mercurial whims and random eccentricities? I haven't either, and I'm pretty sure it would be harder to capture than the rest of The Doctors. But, the author (Rich) admitted that, naturally, Tom's his favorite. So it isn't on purpose.

Yeah, I totally ran into the same feel you did. But, again, I just couldn't blame the guy for getting it half/half with Number Four. He does some superb work with him later on... :techman:

His Sontarans don't stand out to me as much as his Second and Seventh Doctors. Often they're way too short. But I don't care that much because he nails their characterizations and the awesome rapport they would obviously develop if we had seen them on screen together.
