"That's Me!" Avatar Week? (Silly idea inside.)

I'm the guy on the right.

;)

I'm loathe to give up the avatar I've been using for some 5ish years now in various forms, but you appeal to my vanity and openness and thus I must consent.

Alright now the rest of you have to look at me too. My roommate suffers alone no more.

You look good. :)

I'll play, though. This is me at DragonCon 2004. Nathan took the picture himself. Me, that's just what I look like when I'm super-excited/giddy/star-struck/happy. :D

That's cool. :techman:

OK, so that's me, drinking a Warp Core Breach, moments before Quark's in Vegas closed forever.

That's one huge drink.

That's the small one. The regular WCB was, basically, ten shots of various rums and a can and-a-half of SOBE Power over dry ice... in a medium-sized fish bowl.

In the future, we'll all be having giant drinks! Sounds good to me. ;)

SIGH............

Here's me. And, yes, you *could* show movies on that forehead.

These days, where people watch movies on their cell phone displays, you can show a movie on anyone's forehead. So stop worrying about it. :)

Somebody should collect all these Avatars into a permanent TrekBBS Gallery. :bolian:

I second that.

What a fine lot we are, good to see some of the folks who've never posted on the picture threads...

Did you need a favour Mallory??

Zion, if my doctor looked like you I think I'd ask to see a neurologist. :p

And the rest of you are all so young...

I'm not. Trust me on this. It is a recent photo, though (I just shot it last night).

But I agree with Rev in that the rest of you are absurdly young. I love your photo, Rev - so...evocative!

^ Cool photo, period. You almost look like you could be on a Star Trek movie poster. REally.

I find it extremely interesting how foreign an idea this seems to have been for most people here. An avatar is simply a representation of oneself. The most obvious representation should naturally be an actual photo of oneself. But for some reason, it's not the path we take.

And it's not limited to sci-fi forums, so I can't believe it's some kind of "geek complex". Do people really have that much of a problem with seeing themselves? Or in revealing their face to people they know to varying degrees, but mostly "barely know"? People you don't know at all see your face every day. Why is this any harder than walking down the street?

I don't know the answer to that. I found it hard to post, too. Maybe it's because walking down the street is fleeting. Posting your pic somehow invites judgement, maybe. A static image that just sits there waiting to be picked apart. Or so you think/fear.

And the fears seem to be baseless. I had no idea this was such a nice-looking group! :)

Except for me, of course. :shifty:

Thanks for urging us to face those fears, NCC-1701!
