That ship during the opening credits?

Photon

The shipping thats crossing the top of DS9 when Rene's name is flashed, what was it? Speculation? I've never seen it on any Trek whatsoever.

do you mean the one with the blue lights, or the wierd triangular-box shaped one?

I always wondered if the lights that flash when the repairmen are repairing the station (when Meaney's name comes up) spelt out something in morse code....

I always thought that it is some kind of freighter. And as the blueish light often suggests: A starfleet freighter. But I really dunno. You're right, the model was not used again; at least not as far as I know. I quickly searched for some hint to it on the DS9 season four DVD set special features (since the title sequence was new then). But no-one ever looses a word about it. Sorry.

Re: That would be it

That ship is, I believe, a freighter. I've always believed that it is the ship Morn uses for his shipping business. The did say in an episode the a Lurian Freighter was at the station and they used that scene in the regular episode.

It is one of those small long range freighters that was protrayed in about the first part of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The one that delivered Commander Spock to Enterprise.

Although I don't remember it being in the opening credits of DS9...

HMMM! Time to dig out the DVDS

Its a cool looking ship. I remember Mike Okuda talking about the opening sequence somewhere, it was the one where he mentioned the Nebula class ship at the start is called the Leeds.

You mean the warp sled?

I don't think so - the warp sled didn't have large lights like that at all, nor was it shaped the same way.

what's this little ship at the bottom left?

Different ships present in different shots (Season 4)

Runabouts: USS Orinoco, USS Rio Grande, USS Rubicon (Assumed because of ships assigned at beginning of Season 4)

Nebula Class: USS Leeds

Freighter (During Rene): Assumed to be Morn's Freighter

Support (During Michael Dorn): Work Bee (Triangular Shuttle)

Docked Ship: Bajoran Starship

USS Defiant

The scale of some of those ships is dubious, the Defiant leaves the docking ring and moves past a pylon, looking quite large; yet we see a nebula class starship docked on a lower pylon dwarfed by the station, I wish they'd have picked a scale and stuck with it.

I´ve seen this ship discussed countless times in various forums, and noone knows for certain what it is. It has to be a physical model, ds9 used cgi later on didn´t it? Either way, someone has to know what this ship is.
I like it a lot actually. And although the blueish nacelles indicate a starfleet ship, this is not for certain. Why not an ore-freighter that has been converted from it´s former use by the cardassians to ship ore to ds9?
