Nice demo. Car drives off a ranp flips, turns and lands like something out of Blade Runner.

The car is electric but the "flight" is provided by copd gas thrusters.

That's not flying; the definition of the word requires sustained horizontal or upward movement. This is just a cushioned fall.

I'm more curious about why the car didn't fall off the ramp. It didn't seem to be driving fast enough for centrifugal force to hold it there, unless the video was slowed down, but it didn't look like it was. Are we sure this isn't a simulation?

It's also hard to see how anyone other than James Bond would have a use for this. Just another case of billionaires wasting money on fulfilling their fantasies rather than making practical consumer products.

And how can they possibly fit enough compressed gas to serve any real use?
And what happens to the driver due to that compressed gas if the car is compromised in an accident?

This is just another exercise in jerking showing off.

Magnets. or maybe the thrusters were already operating in a "push TOWARD surface" mode.

thing is, there have technically been flying cars since the sixties, but their utility has always been limited by various things. and i, as a lifelong pedestrian and sometimes passenger, am not confident in any of the drivers in this country to play well with flying vehicles.

In the Full Release video, Elon explains that they have a Vacuum underneath the car that can generate 2g's worth of suction / down force.

That's why the car didn't fall.

The same Vacuum system recharges the air tanks very quickly, so the amount of thruster time you have is very limited.

At least now there is a car who is designed to jump other cars like in Knight Rider.

Although the Turbo Boost functions a bit differently.

Same Air Tank Aft thrusters fully charged allows a 0-60 mph in < 1 second.

The McMurtry Spéirling Hypercar can do it too, it's a neat trick. I also have a toy remote control gecko that climbs walls under the same principle.

It's a party trick, the uses are limited, how often do you need to drive on walls / ceilings?

How often are you using your car to jump over other cars?

The entire rear of the car was apparently modified to hold the pressurised tanks required for this cunning stunt. It was far from being a practical modification or one that would make it into commercial vehicles. A publicity stunt was indeed all that this was.
