Spoilers Terry Matalas is doing a Reddit Q&A

Wasn't the Galaxy class ALSO considered a joke in the early seasons?
Not really. In the early seasons every spoke in awe of the Galaxy class. It's only as TNG progressed that it seemed incredibly disaster prone to the point that you'd think a floating leaf would be enough to trigger a coolant leak and warp core breach. Hell, for a design that's supposed to have a hundred year lifespan, within the first decade three ships of the class were destroyed.

To be fair the Odyssey had one hell of a time

Yeah, it’s not like design flaws destroyed the Enterprise, Yamato and Odyssey.

I mean, the reason they used the Odyssey in “The Jem Hadar” was to show how tough the Dominion was. That they could take out one of Starfleet’s top line ships with relative ease.

The Enterprise’s incident at Veridian 3 seemed to have an outsized impact based on the damage rcvd. I know it was just due to the Vfx budget but two torpedoes and a handful of disruptor hits shouldn’t have done that

well placed hits and ineffective shields…I can see it. The Enterprise weapons having no effect on the BoP is a different story.

Well...their shields were operating at a certain frequency and they adjusted their weapons to match which somehow made them completely on the same level as a Galaxy class.

Someone should've asked terry if the events of the Borg invasion of Frontier Day would have ramifications throughout Star Trek: Legacy his spin-off idea.

He said somewhere it would be the Star Trek equivalent of the Mavel 'snap'. A society altering event.
