It's a bit of a slow start. As I recall, "V" started out this way, and now look what happened to it. It doesn't have that "oomph" factor. Yet.

V started out great, then they had to turn it into a weekly series. And don't even get me started on that re-imagined crap.

Besides the stupid, kids going OTG unarmed in land with lots of things more dangerous then tigers, grizzly bears and crocodiles, it was a pretty good start.

I have a feeling they're setting up something with that girls father who vanished. Maybe he'll come back all crazy and talk about aliens

Spielberg and braga

There's has to be aliens or interdimensional beings ;)

I agree. Why can't they portray kids as basically good but immature people? Honestly teenagers on TV are basically emotional brats with absolutely no impulse control. I met one amazing teenager who basically raised money to charter her own plane to Haiti to provide relief supplies. Why doesn't TV have people like her.

I got what I wanted. I've been a huge dinosaur nerd since I was old enough to walk, and Carnotaurus has always been one of my favorites. Sure, the teenagers were annoying (when are they not?) but it's totally worth it for the dino attacks. The CGI may not be feature film quality, but it's more than adequate and I don't see that most of the complaints have much validity. The last time I even recall seeing a CGI dinosaur on a weekly television series was Sliders... and let's just say that technology has indeed progressed since then.

Hopefully the story, which does have promise, will go somewhere and the personalities will develop more. This show *could* be more than just pretty scenery and dinosaurs. But if that's all it is, it's still one of the more exciting science fiction shows on the air at the moment.

Darn, that blasted teen didn't get chomped on by a dinosaur.

I don't mind character conflict, it would just be nice if that conflict made some sort of sense. He's mad at Dad for striking an overzealous enforcer who's manhandling his 3 year old sister, thus getting arrested? For protecting and defending your family?

Guess dinos don't like surly flavored food...

Aside from that, I found myself liking what was put on the table. Not sayin' it was perfect but I wasn't hating it as much as I thought, after all the hype over delays, the battalion of exec producers and other behind the scenes madness. Wonderful production values-no cheap sets or colorless picture quality most of the cable sci fi shows ( using digital cameras) seem to suffer from. They've set up enough mysteries that are more than capable of generating interesting stories. Let's hope that they can stay on course and deliver them, and not wander off track.

Wow, that was a lot better than I was expecting. The characters might be a tad generic, but the story, action, and visuals were so strong that it almost didn't matter. And the setup with the renegade settlers and the mysterious markings is just interesting enough to make you want to see more.

Unlike the dreary and dull Falling Skies, this one actually feels like it's got some of that old Spielberg magic to it. Cool.

So did anybody here go into this thing NOT looking for something new to hate?

Heh, no kidding. I'm as cynical as the next scifi fan, but come on, this was FAR better than that super trashy V or generic Falling Skies (not to mention all the Stargates put together. lol).

For something made for families, this had a surprising amount of edge to it, I thought. I mean seriously, there was a dinosaur chewing on a kid's leg. You don't see that everyday. :p

No way, I may have said bad thing about Falling Skies but up until know (only one episode for Terra Nova) Falling Skies is much better (as well as V).

I'm horribly conflicted.

The characters with the exceptions of Taylor, maybe Sky, and maybe Zoe are horrible. The focus on the family is all sorts of wrong. The actions of most of the characters range from mildly stupid to incredibly idiotic.

But this is big style TV sci-fi which hasn't been around for awhile, and the story of the colony and the mysteries are interesting. The visuals are great, the Australian jungle looks fantastic.

I'll stick with it for now, hoping that it veers more into the adventure/survivalist/big-ideas side of things, and steers clear of family drama/teenage angst. I'm crossing my fingers.

My reaction to it is almost the same as Falling Skies, great premise, interesting situations, ruined by weak characters and manufactured angst and drama.

How come Sky looks 10 years younger than she did 5 years ago on Kings?

About a million times better than Outcasts, but still meh.

The characters are so horribly cliched that it's pretty laughable. The visuals are very appealing although some of the dinosaurs are a bit lacking, but it's TV so I assume that the effects will not be movie quality. Obviously the night scenes helped a lot in hiding/limiting effect shots because you couldn't really see much.

I don't really understand what's going on with the camp and how the fracture works. They can't travel through it to return to the future, then how exactly does the commander talk to the future? I guess it's like the Stargate where somehow communication frequencies can travel back through. The other thing is he said that when he was originally sent through the second traveler left a second or so after him but arrived over 100 days later. Did they find some way to tweak the fracture because obviously the colonists didn't arrive staggered that way. It's just the pilot so I guess more will be revealed as it goes along.

I think it's going to have to be the conspiracy/real reason for why they're in the past and what is going on that has to drive the show because if this is meant to be a family/character driven drama they have A LOT of work to do with the blandness of those characters.

When those kids started dying because they were idiots, I began to assume they all shared a common ancestor.

Kim Bauer.

Come on guys, most teenagers are stupid, I certainly was. And yes, I would've gone OTG unarmed into a jungle full of dangerous dinosaurs the second an nice girl asked me to, in case you didn't know, when you're 16 you are invincible.

I give "freshman" designated teenagers dreamboy the right to be stupid. Why was the teaser and the rest of her gang so stupid? Didn't we all just see a machinegunner pulled from his speeding vehicle and eaten. Or was that at the same time? In any event the rest of the kids had lived there for sometime and must have seen stuff similar to that

Well, I had mindless fun, which is all I was expecting.

I was amused that they did a bullfight gag with a carnotaurus ("meat-eating bull"). That tells me SOMEbody on the writing staff is paying attention.

Must be like Stargate where they can radio through only, and they probably got things tweaked with the travelers are in time sync. I guess they have had 7 years to work on it.

I found it interesting that they said they were in a different time stream so in effect they have 2 parrallel universes going on (hmm STXI anyone lol) ...or that is not Earth but a planet almost like earth with a similar moon. They said the stars were not in the proper place but you would think astrologers would be able to track and account how the stars would be positioned 85 million years ago to verify.
