Terminator: Salvation
Terminator Salvation" director McG has updated his blog for the sci-fi sequel and confirmed that the project has wrapped principal photography and is well into post. Here's the highlights of his latest entry:

"We wrapped principal photography. Now we're heavy into post. I've already shown early cuts to Christian and Sam. They seem pleased with where the film is headed. Our focus is on story and character, but it's fun diving into the world of visual effects.

Charlie Gibson is aware of his responsibility as the VFX supervisor and second unit director of this film. He works with ILM and Asylum every day and makes revisions to the finest detail. We want the patina of the machines to be dirty and heavy and perfectly realistic - that's why we built so much practically with Stan Winston.

But at some point the effects kick in and like any Terminator fan, Charlie wants his mind blown. There's one sequence in particular where we're trying to achieve something that's never been done before. I don't want to talk about it because we haven't been successful yet...But we're working on it.

I know in the TV thread some didn't know this movie was even shooting.
Therefore here is a status update hopefully to be seen by those interested.

I'm really curious about this one. I love first two Terminator movies and like the third one. I think McG's a really weird choice to helm this but then I did enjoy the Charlie's Angels movies quite a bit (silly beyond all reason but also lots of fun IMHO).

I'd say T4 is as much of an unknown quantity as Abram's Star Trek film, so it will be interesting to see what McG comes up with.

A Terminator movie without Schwarzenegger is little different to Kirk without Shatner. Both films could fail miserably at the box office, although I think T4 will do reasonable business.

I don't think the Govenator really matters to the Terminator franchise anymore, especially given his age.

I agree. Bale is the new face of Terminator. Arnold will not be missed at this point in the story either.

McG is clueless, this press release should read:

It's believed that Arnold is going to be in the film, just not as expected. He is supposedly having his face superimposed over the body double and has recorded lines for the film.

Yes, do you think that might be the special effect that "no-one has done before" that they are trying to get right?

Yes I've heard of this but my statement stands. Bale is the new star power for this franchise. This unique cameo is a nod if anything, to the past and to the continuity of the franchise, however loose and segmented that continuity is in places.

True. The rumor was they considered the Arnold cameo because of the outcry because Arnold wasn't going to be in it.

UNCLE BOB: I cannot self terminate.
John Connor: I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you.

That is great news...that its done filming. Hopefully there will be no serious delays or problems with post production and we can have this out at its determined time next summer. Isn't it supposed to come out shortly after Star Trek and Wolverine? Its going to be another huge box office next summer. I would agree that Christian Bale has taken over the Terminator movie franchise as the new face.

Yes, May 2009 is going to be every bit as full as May 2008 with the movies you mention: Star Trek and Wolverine. Not to mention, if the schedule holds, the Tom Hanks DaVinci code follow-up Angels&Demons and Ben Stillers Night at the Museum 2 which is currently opening against Terminator: Salvation. I guess its seen as counterprogramming.

So, which May 09 movie gets to be Speed Racer(flop) next year? At the least Prince Caspian(dissapointment)?

If all the May movies make out well, in a couple years we'll have "Star Trek: Wolverine vs. Terminator."

I'm sorry, that's just silly. This is going to bomb without Arnold.
He could get his ass in shape one more time for a three second "arrival" shot, just as he did in 3. Don't forget, those photos of him in horrible shape were taken before he pulled it together for T3.

I dunno, Christian Bale is a hot commodity right now. After Dark Knight he's probably one of the most bankable actors out there. I would say that Bale alone can put butts in seats right now.
