I think really the biggest issue was the casting of John Connor and his portryal. Strangely its John's portryal in both T3 and TSCC that I think has had people uneasy. TSCC has more than that as an issue but it doesn't help.

The John Connor portrayal in T:4 is going to I believe finally be the "hero" we've been promised since Kyle first told Sarah that in the original.

I've given John Connor in T:TSCC a free pass for the most part. Yes he's seen alot of shit but he's always had his mom calling the shots. He's shown that he can take charge and kick ass when necessary, so he's slowly working up to being the "hero" spoken of by Kyle, Derek, etc... I think that Sarah will have to die before John Connor becomes John Connor, leader of the resistance, savior to mankind.

As far as John Connor in T3, yeah he was pretty much as wuss through the whole thing.

I watched T3 again on the weekend, and I do like the movie, moreso than T2 in some respects. It does have a number of nit-picky problems throughout, but for the most part I think it's a good entry in the saga. One thing that does annoy me, which I was reminded of when I watched it, is that a lot of the crashes include a deep, heavy rumble on the soundtrack that seems a bit overkill to me. This is mostly evident during the crane chase, which certainly has its share of crashes.

I was hoping that the ending of Terminator 3, when they made it to the bunker, would reveal that Skynet was actually a punch-card computer from the 1950's hooked up to an old modem. John Conner just unplugs it.

In-universe explanation, Arnold's Terminator was as bulky as it was because technology was not advanced enough for it to be smaller and less conspicuous.

Or: it was the combat model skeleton; the one Skynet used in the ground battles without skin; raw power.

The T800 series of Terminators is an entire range of skeletons, from small to large, from male to female, that a wide range of skins can be put on. And the one sent back in time is simply the CSM-101; the massive combat model.

I kinda liked T3, moments where John is all shocked machine's are built in a factory at an assembly line, and suddenly thinks the Terminator is the same Terminator he helped destroy in the molten metal years earlier, really threw me out of the movie. (Especially considering John rightly asked of Arnie in the beginning whether he's there to kill him, which also makes one wonder why a terminator looking like him managed to kill him in the future because it had sentimental value.)

It needed more future war scenes though, and a more interesting secondary storyline. The TX rocked.

One big problem though; is the ridiculous notion of "reusing scenes from previous movies". Seriously, Terminator in bar/Terminator in strip bar. Terminator counts casualties (purely for the reuseability factor), and TX asking for the names just like T1. Which is ridiculous. The TX has the photos, there's no need for her to ask the identity, all she needs to do is check the photo she pulled off of the net.

^ Yep. There are 800 series terminators of all sizes in the Terminator saga. The child terminators are among the most creepy (but they're from the comics and novels).

I didn't like the way T3 was dumbed down for a younger audience in comparison to the first two movies. I think that damaged the film's reputation.

I was fairly harsh after I originally saw T3, and I do think there are some genuine problems with it. But after seeing T2 on AMC recently, I might consider watching T3 again and giving it a second go. Some ideas are good, just not executed very well. The T-X is easily the biggest of those IMO, as she's meant to be more advanced than the T-1000 but isn't nearly as impressive. Kristanna Loken just doesn't pull off the "silent and deadly" thing as well as Robert Patrick and Arnold did in their respective villain roles. I also think the T-1000 works because, for its unique strengths, the T-800 is still a formidable opponent. The two are closely matched enough to make their combat more entertaining than the fights in T3. IMO anyway.

I wasn't entirely comfortable with the idea of Judgment Day being inevitable either. T2 certainly doesn't rule that out, even though it strongly hints that Skynet's survival is questionable at best. My two main problems were John living "off the grid" for no obvious reason, since he doesn't know that Skynet could still be built; and Skynet going rogue because the T-X tampered with its programming, rather than gaining sentience on its own as was said in the previous two films.

Meh. I'll have to watch the movie again.
