Terminator 3

Captain Zog

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
What did you think of the 2003 sequel - Rise of the Machines? I thought it had its moments, but using a blonde bimbo-type chick as the most deadly Terminator yet? I mean, come on. I've heard of gender equality, but that girl was about as intimidating as your run-of-the-mill stripper.

Oh, you've heard of gender equality? Quaint silly notion, isn't it? Sheesh.
Straight-out-of-the-'50 inanity aside, Terminators are designed infiltrators. They don't have to be intimidating. On the contrary, they ought to be as little as noticeable as possible. In-universe explanation, Arnold's Terminator was as bulky as it was because technology was not advanced enough for it to be smaller and less conspicuous. T-2 was noticeably less massive (liquid handwavium aside), T-3 is even smaller, and Cameron is the smallest of them all.

I liked the ending and the use of practical effects, but why retell the exact same story for the third time? Was Linda Hamilton absolutely not coming back if James Cameron wasn't? Some missed opportunities with her character.

Arnold playing both a good terminator and a bad terminator could've been something, too.

I'm going to start a Word document so I can just cut and paste answers going forward.

For now though...I liked it. Its bashed harshly by some, unfairly imo, and is a good entry in the franchise.

Cant remember too much about it to be honest. It seemed to be one of those films where you start forgetting about it almost as soon as you leave the cinema.

I liked it. Granted, it was a rehash of T2, in terms of overall story, but I liked how they worked it as why this chase was important (as opposed to "Oh, we are being chased by robots again" route, which they could have easily done).

Definitely a missed opportunity, but a pretty good fun movie. At least it doesn't take itself so seriously as T2 does.

T2 I find cloyingly sentimental in too many parts, it's too long, and Furlong is a dick, on the plus side the special effects are amazing and Arnie is hilarious now he's got it into his head that he can act and he is trying to be robotic, instead of actually being robotic

T3 is just dumb and fun, and minus the horrible boy meets Cyborg and anthropomorphises it plot, which was just mind numbingly vomit inducing. It doesn't offend me as much, but then it doesn't impress me as much either.

This is what I wrote for another site about the movie, it's a couple of years old but whatever:

Ok. I am a HUGE sci fi fan and I love Terminator and T2. I had huge hopes for T3 but it just left me feeling REALLY REALLY EMTY.

1st. The movie felt like it was cut. It felt like it was heavily cut. The movie runs for about 104 mins.. T2 ran for well over
atleast 2 hours .

The dialogue was at zero. And I suspect a lot of plot never really got explored, like when T-X is sent to kill Connors officers.. She kills 2. And thats that.

Furthermore there is no suspense no nothing like that. Remember T2? We didnt even know who was the good / Bad Terminator until Well 25-30 mins into the movie. Here the Biggest scene in the whole movie with the crane chase is well underway after 25-30 mins. It just feels like they rushed everything. Do the movie companies really give us so little credit nowadays so they think we wont sit thru a film unless it
ALWAYS has action ??

Now to my biggest concern which ties to the cutting.

The movie is basicly just ACTION non stop ACTION. I know you will say ok well its a good action movie. Yes i agree But this is terminator.. they had 12!! years to come up with a INCREDIBLE script. What we get is a script that is nonstop action no dialogue no plot no nothing except mindnumbing action.

I mean first its the fight at the veterinarian, then they drive for what? 5 mins then they fight at the cemetary, then they fight at the military complex then they go to the fallout shelter and the movie is basicly Done. There is so minimal dialogue (ok i know im repeating myself) that I could puke. This is a Terminator movie not an action movie they should have done more.

And now to the minor stuff.

Whats the deal with all these stuff that makes no sense. Like when he puts on these silly glasses the male stripper had then he takes them off and crushes them. Ok hes a ROBOT, does he have some coolness program he must obey? If he has a directive to wear glasses he should have worn these it would have made complete sense.

Then whats the deal with counting how many cops hes killed?? I hate how movies these days have aboslutely no balls. Like when Spielberg replaced the rifles in E.T with walkie talkies.. This terminator was Sent from the future he had NO directive not to kill cops he repeats his directives More then once i think and its solely to ensure that connor and his wife lives.

This movie was made for the fast buck and it sucks because they destroyed possibly the greatest line of movies ever. This movie is basically a parody of the two former movies.

Thanks for the rant

T3 is so underrated, have no idea why it is disliked. I thought it was the best one, but T4 looks awesome so T4 might be the best one

I couldn't stand the sexual innuendos involving the "terminatrix", even the title seems lame. I think she would have made an excellent terminator if she had better direction and a better script.

The visual effects are less convincing than T2's (from what I understand, the guys at ILM were directing their main attention to Star Wars II at the time). I liked the direction they took with the end but little things like Nick Stahl's voice erks me.

In two years you never managed to run that fucker through spellcheck?

the Terminator has a recognition of what is and isn't 'approriate' wear. notice it rejects the female patrons in the bar before targeting the stripper. it's entirely plausible it decided the Elton John glasses looked daft. the T-800 in T2 similarly rejects the female staffer at the diner for acquiring her clothes.

as for the thing about the cop-killing, i stand by the assertion that John told the T-850 not to kill cops in the mausoleum off-camera. we follow Kate out the doors, to the ambulance and see Silberman. we miss seeing John getting into the coffin and the T-850 picking up the minigun and coffin. Connor could've easily said 'don't kill any cops' before getting into the coffin.
