"Tenet" - 2020.. Nolan's new mindbender

but I admitted I was emotional and trying to drive to a point.. and if I was amongst actual friends hanging out the most it could be called was something I misspoke.. no big deal. not "right" but no big deal.. but I could admit I misspoke here all day and I could add the person I'm talking about wouldn't mind, but it doesn't matter.. me just cutting to my point instead of using decorative PC language is ALL you folks care about as if you've never misspoken in history. Also .. if a movie wants to have a diverse cast.. fine. but if it doesn't fine. Back to the future is beloved, and the only black characters are musicians and a janitor. Jennifer is basically a token girlfriend with no development. Marty is a typical heterosexual white kid, and no one has complained that he not gender fluid, or any number of things people could complain about. Why? Because the movie told a good timeless story.. and it wasn't trying (right or wrong) to make sure all these checkboxes were.. checked off

Did it bug anyone here that the leads of the original Star Trek were three white guys ?
You really, really don't get it.

It's not like you get a vote on the truth, okay? Everything is not subject to you passing your judgment on it.
Wrong, select groups and individuals do not get to determine the current version of what passes as " the truth."

If this was problem in the pass, it does become correct if we change the groups arounds.

like it or not the modern day over all collective group are making the decisions. not a different select subdivision.

it's not somehow your "turn."

No it's not racially colorblind if you are making that an issue going in.

See you're not engaging it thoughtfully at all . Youre a demigauge to this concept and leaning on guilt to make sure that it is going to break through the surface. My neighbor is a flaming gay dude.. almost a hermit, and he has all kinds of problems with how he has trouble integrating in society.

But he never once complained that the movies I loaned him have had very few if any gay characters

I guess in your view, everything is political. Even entertainment can't be enjoyed for what it is but only lambasted for what it isn't.
Warning for continuing to promote an offensive atmosphere with such terminology

Yesterday, I finally decided to just say screw it, and we are going to go see Tenet tomorrow.

I really, really enjoyed it.
There was a lot of really ingenious stuff with the back and forth. I especially loved the
hallway fight scene where got it in in one direction, and then went back later and saw it going to other way.
The stuff with Kat was a nice way to give us some more personal stuff in the midst of all the mind bending crazy.
The whole bit at the end with it turning out Neal was at the end of his relationship with The Protagonist while he was at the beginng, was a fun little twist. It reminded me of The Doctor and River Son.
The only thing I was a little unclear on was if the future destroying the past would also destroy them, or if they were safe since they would be after the inversion.
There were a few other people in the theater, but not many.

^Glad you enjoyed it. Can't really give an answer to the part you're unclear of, since I'm not sure the movie even adressed that. But, hey, I think as far as open questions go, this is a nice one to leave open.

With Wonder Woman being pushed back to Christmas, I'm thinking about watching that again. Not just yet, but in two or three weeks, yeah,

I will definitely be watching it at least once more once it's available either on HBOMax or as a rental on Amazon.

It's not worth going to see Tenet.

I watched it today. Emotionless, unnecessarily complex, gives you no time to breathe during exposition which is essential to understand the plot and if you miss a piece of info you'll get lost easily. Found the action scenes to be nothing amazing compared to Nolan's other movies.

SPOILER WARNING!!!

Exactly, complex for complexity's sake, I think. Half the film is about making contact with the bad guy, and when the protagonist does finally meet him, the carefully crafted cover story is dropped almost immediately. So instead of spending half the film showing them disrupting his distribution network, they could have just as easily have driven up to his house and said, "Hi, we're with the time police!"

Or have I missed something? :D

^ They're losing tens of millions on it.... 200 million budget plus marketing & advertising budget .... Won't break even until it hits the ansulary market revenue stream... (VOD, streaming, cable, etc..)

Yes, long term, they are losing money. On the other hand, they had already spent most of that money before the pandemic, and they got a bit of new revenue to hold them over a bit.

Yeah, but when you consider the fact that we're in the middle of a pandemic, making any of that money back at all is something to be happy about.
