"Tenet" - 2020.. Nolan's new mindbender

No it's not racially colorblind if you are making that an issue going in.

See you're not engaging it thoughtfully at all . Youre a demigauge to this concept and leaning on guilt to make sure that it is going to break through the surface. My neighbor is a flaming gay dude.. almost a hermit, and he has all kinds of problems with how he has trouble integrating in society.

But he never once complained that the movies I loaned him have had very few if any gay characters

I guess in your view, everything is political. Even entertainment can't be enjoyed for what it is but only lambasted for what it isn't.

Maybe, the lack of acceptance to ever see gays even on film is part of the trouble integrating in society?

Flaming gay dude?

Meaning it's obvious that he is gay, and I'm too pissed right now to make that sound "correct" .. obviously I have no problem hanging out with him.. as I loan him my movies and talk about music.

It's like now I have to make sure I don't offend not people.. but some kind of standard. Like I can't not offend no existant entities

by the way, my neighbor referred to himself as flaming gay. It certainly wouldn't bother him if I were to say it, especially when I don't mean it as an insult, just a description.

How is that? Your description of that gay man as flaming was unacceptable back in the 80s. Maurice provided an example of an equally long unacceptable descriptor.
Sure its unacceptable. But to say that you don't use stereotypes at all in your life makes you a hypocrite. Plus he doesn't mind. He uses it to describe himself that way. Plus I was angry enough that I got sick of couching my language in what is so formal and correct as it stopped me from getting to my actual point. I'm not saying I was "right" but I am saying that if I was speaking amongst friends .theyd probably be ok. It's not like we all dont slip once in a while. I guess I'm not amongst friends here, just hypocrites. Why should I bother.. in this crappy message board.. worrying about what is "acceptible" when you guys all bang your drum but act the complete opposite

One only "slips up" if it is a part of one's natural thought process. Sure, we make errors out of ignorance but then we do our best to correct based on the group or the person offended. People have the right to choose how they want to be referenced. And it is important to reflect upon our errors and try to do better in the future.

Racist acts are racist despite intention. In fact, intent has little to do with racism--any more than being a good or a bad person has to do with racism. Failing to realize this perpetuate the problems in society. It is not about being "better" or more "ethical" it is a matter of recognizing or not recognizing our privilege. And not getting offended or upset or making it about ourselves when we are called out on it. That is what "white fragility" is.

As for art or films in this case, they can be good or bad regardless of the ethnicity of the cast. Good or bad is irrelevant to the argument. It is about helping promote a better representation of the diverse nature of society.

Sure its unacceptable.
Almost there...

But to say that you don't use stereotypes at all in your life makes you a hypocrite.
No, that's not what a hypocrite is or even the point.

Plus he doesn't mind. He uses it to describe himself that way.
That doesn't matter. It doesn't make it OK for anyone to fling slurs, insults, or demeaning descriptors about.

Plus I was angry enough that I got sick of couching my language in what is so formal and correct as it stopped me from getting to my actual point.
Civility keeps you from making your point? That's interesting.

I'm not saying I was "right" but I am saying that if I was speaking amongst friends .theyd probably be ok.
Whatever your friends might be OK with doesn't make demeaning or offensive language acceptable.

It's not like we all dont slip once in a while. I guess I'm not amongst friends here, just hypocrites.
It's not a question of slipping but refusing to learn which makes the trouble for you. Not enabling the use of offensive language isn't hypocrisy.

Why should I bother.. in this crappy message board.. worrying about what is "acceptible" when you guys all bang your drum but act the complete opposite
So, you're going to use the offensive language whether it's called out by others or not.

The problem is that everythign is offensive these days. No one has a thick skin. people are oversensitive. Now the academy is going to judging films based on diversity requirements because they are so afraid of offending some group. Yet interacting with real people everything is the same.

I'm going to bet that you have more interactions with a sad cup of microwave macaroni than real people. Real people tend to not get hung up on one issue ad nauseum, as you seem to do.

Now I realize you were the original poster on this thread, but surely even YOU have realized by now that over time, in every thread I have seen in this forum where the discussion turns to diversity in entertainment, your input becomes the flaming bag of poop on the porch of discussion. (analogy.. I am not literally calling you a flaming bag of poop. I don't know if you are a flaming bag of poop, or flaming gay or flaming straight or just a small sad barely glowing ember of cognizance or even, remarkably, something altogether different) . Rather than recycle all the comments people have made before that you don't like to listen to, I actually have a solution for you:

Learn Russian. I am quite serious. The Russian film industry, while not as vibrant as it was in the good ole days when MosFilm was the biggest studio on earth, it still exists, still makes a lot of content, including sci fi and it is remarkably un-diverse. You can be happy, you can rejoice in the community of your fellow aficionados and apparatchiks of an industry that seems to have skipped time. And the bag will burn forever and no one will stomp on it.
