Ten things you'll never hear a football fan say

"I wonder if Tom Brady will have a place on the team when he comes back, seeing as how Cassel is doing great!"

"Wow, what an awesome snap by the center!"

You know, I've seen a couple of really crappy snaps today. I guess centers only get noticed when they screw up, but there have been at least two or three that almost resulted in turnovers.

I don't recall the exact words he used, but when Bellichick was asked about his team's performance, he said something like, "Well, we were competitive in the kicking game." Ugh.

And they've done it! The New Orleans Saints are the new NFC Conference champions!

"In a few years, people are going to realize the genius of Matt Millen, especially his revolutionary drafting."

"Why did Chicago bench Rex Grossman? He's one of the best quarterbacks in the NFC. They would be 4-0 if they didn't bench him!"

"Donovan McNabb isn't injury prone. He just wants to help Kevin Kolb develop."

I think if you listen to your local talk radio and post-game football shows, you'll hear a lot of football fans say things you wouldn't expect them to say, i.e. anointing the third string QB who has never taken a snap as being the next Joe Montana and that the team should bench their All-Pro QB in favor of him.

Most stuff sports talk callers say makes no sense and is incredibly ill conceived. Usually it involves drivel about playing with 'more heart' or 'not playing like a true (team)'

I think the best is when a show does a post-mortem on a team and what they need to do in the offseason. The callers come up with these wacky trade/free agency scenarios that make no sense and usually involve trading an injured, aging, overpriced player for some hot all star.

I find the callers to be the worst part of the shows, mainly because talk radio is best when people actually know how to talk, which is usually just the host and the guests. Callers tend not to have any follow through on their ideas and end up repeating their subject over and over again, i.e. "The coach is bad because he sucks." They think their team is the crown jewel of sports (why wouldn't Pete Carroll quit USC and come coach the Chiefs?) and think they're playing fantasy sports when it comes to trading and signing players.

Eh, the sports talk stations I listen to have hosts that make fun of callers like that, so it's not so bad.

I miss the old Mike and the Mad Dog program, who treated those kind of callers...and well pretty much most of their callers like dirt. I was sorry they broke up but its nice because I can hear Dog on XM now.

and think they're playing fantasy sports when it comes to trading and signing players.

Agreed. Most of them have no concept of how the details of it work, especially when payroll and salary caps come into play.

You know what the Mets need to do? Well first they need to sign K-Rod and every other available closer. This way you'll have a lights out guy in every inning of relief. They should also trade Luis Castillo's bad knees and contract for Mariano Rivera.

They should sign Texeira to play first, then move Delgado over to second to keep his bat in the lineup. They should replace Alou in left with Daniel Murphy. Because he had a nice September in spot duty afer being called up means he's a future hall of famer!

For the rotation, after they sign Sabathia they should resign Oliver Perez for $14M a year, so we can continue to see him throw 7 innings of 2 hit ball one day followed by a 5 walk 4 inning performance the next time out!

Wheeee!!!

"If I were to build a team from the ground up using great athletes who are also noble, decent, humble, caring human beings people can look up to, I'd start with Terrell Owens, Chad Johnson and Plaxico Burress as my wide receivers."

I was listening to two broadcasters reporting on a football game, it was fourth and goal, and the offensive team was going for a field goal; it was blocked, and the kicker picked up the ball and threw it for a touchdown.

The broadcasters kept debating whether that was even legal. The score counted, and someone hand the broadcasters a rule book to help them out in the future.

I don't think you'll hear a fan say "I understand Mike Shanahan and Al Davis have made up"
