Ten Forward Lounge - Miscellaneous General Chat & Welcome Thread

My wife hates Barry Manilow. Fortunately she revealed that "deal-breaker" to me after we were married. :)

Play the Carpenters version of "Can't Smile Without You" instead.

All relationships have some kind of musical compromise. I can make my husband leave the room by playing UB40, and he can do the same to me by playing a Yoko Ono "song" from a John Lennon album.

We both love Roberta Flack, so we obviously have a strong marriage. ;)
My wife gets me back by playing Sarah Brightman. :scream::scream::scream:

Anybody - whether single or married - who doesn't like at least one Carpenters song is a person without a little thing we call a soul.

^eh. Souls are over-rated. I'm pretty sure fandom consumed my soul a long time ago, anyway. Haven't missed it.

My hubby plays death metal, which I can put up with, for a time, but it's certainly not my favorite. To get back at him, I'll crank up some torch-song sappy ballad and sing along, loudly, with my horrifyingly bad singing voice.

Luckily, we can usually agree on most 70s & 80s rock. We particularly like tormenting my nieces while on long drives by rocking out to AC/DC and singing along at the top of our lungs. Yes, we are THOSE relatives.

This is one group I've actually heard of and enjoy some of their songs (haven't heard most of them).

Nursing my hand still from the cut earlier today. It didn't hurt when I first cut the finger but now hours on it feels weird. Not painful just sensitive to touch...

Wishing i had Beverly Crusher to look after me.

The Carpenters were one of the many musical artists who were part of the soundtrack of my youth. I heard their songs pretty frequently as a kid and while I enjoy some far more than others they're all well-crafted compositions with some of the best vocals of that era.

Karen Carpenter was (and remains) one of the all-time great voices in the history of popular music.

So I have been walking everyday, reading everyday and eating more healthy and I feel great but I was thinking of my larger goals/purpose and I have always loved music. As a kid I wanted to be in music, wrote songs and pretended like I was a star, I would create music with friends and later on I was in a band as the vocalist and we played a show and that was amazing. At the time I wasn't committed to it and also had problems with depression so I just gave up. I realize I have things I need to do just to make ends meet right now but my goal is to write a great song and get it out there. :)

^You could just emulate his singing or songwriting (if you really felt the need to ) but just don't emulate him.

Vocally I have been compared to Aaron Lewis from Staind singing clean but screaming I sound like Jonathan Davis from KoRn. As far as song writing I truly love how Taylor Swift can craft a song. :)
