Ten Forward Lounge - Miscellaneous General Chat & Welcome Thread

If her name was "Mandy" I would understand.

I think its more a "I don't like this style" kind of thing, as she is not a big fan of Neil Diamond either, and they both have that kind of talky singy verse, belt out the chorus performance style.

I actually like Neil Diamond. I'm not crazy about stuff like "I Am, I Said" where he complains repeatedly that his chair can't hear him, or "Play Me" when he mentions "song she sang to me, song she brang to me", but otherwise, he's pretty good.

I like 1970s Neil Diamond. He was one great stage performer and had some very entertaining songs. My parents got to see him in concert before I was born and always had good things to say about the man and his music. I grew up listening to him.

One thing I thought was kind of creepy: The Caroline from "Sweet Caroline" was liike 9 years old when Neil wrote that song. :wtf:

(It was Caroline Kennedy.)

Cannot stand Neil Diamond and the Kennedys needed another honor like I need more weight. I was never keen on Sweet Caroline and now I know it's named after one of those, I hate it.

Do like Manilow though. What can I say? :D

Let's all be glad "Cracklin' Rosie" wasn't a love ballad to the robot housekeeper on The Jetsons, because I've already had too much of my innocence about that show ruined over the years.

All relationships have some kind of musical compromise. I can make my husband leave the room by playing UB40, and he can do the same to me by playing a Yoko Ono "song" from a John Lennon album.

My wife hates Barry Manilow. Fortunately she revealed that "deal-breaker" to me after we were married. :)

Play the Carpenters version of "Can't Smile Without You" instead.

If I was a starship captain I would play "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" at all first contact missions.

Unfortunately this might have the side effect of getting the Earth obliterated, but who wouldn't take that chance just to hear Karen Carpenter sing? :adore:

@eddie: Did you know that the reason nobody ever walked on the ground in The Jetsons was exactly the same reason used in The Fifth Element (the surface of the Earth is too polluted for humans to survive)? Think about it...

Another fun fact: Bruce Willis ad-libbed the line about "I only speak two languages: English and bad English."

But what I'm wondering is: when Milla Jovovich eats at a deli, and then hands the clerk her ticket as she leaves, does she say "Mul-ti-pass"?

Speaking of singers I find it funny that I really never liked Donny and Marie Osmond but seeing her on Dancing With The Stars I suddenly found myself liking her a whole lot.

Why is it when you go on Vacation it seems like that's when the major news breaks. I was on vacation this week and the NYSE shuts down for a few hours, Kenny Stabler passes away, Greece feels like it's never going to end, and it's comic con. Feels like it's been longer than a week since I have been gone.
