Temporal Threads - A Uniform Database

Awesome, very helpful thanks!

Now onto all the one off uniforms, jumpsuits, captain's variants, field uniforms, dress uniforms etc. For one of the more 'simple' types of uniform there are a lot of variants..

Been quiet here for some time but working steadily in the background. Had some interest in designing things for Axanar with the potential that a design may get picked to be made into a patch! And given that I collect patches, (Military, Sci-fi, Pop-Culture). Here are some of the designs I came up with, please let me know your thoughts.

Also working on some different templates that may be best used for one-off designs or for full series, I am not sure yet.

Cannot wait to see Picard and work on the uniforms for that show.

It's why uniforms are a ridiculous obsession of mine, though I lack the artistic ability to do anything about it. I love the amazing about of variants I can come up with. I love the captain's wrap, as well as field uniforms. I eagerly await the next uniform update...

ETA: No need to spam a second post. Here are my actual reviews.

The uniforms look good. I think if tailored right they could have a very clean and sleek fit like the USS KELVIN or DISCOVERY uniforms. It reminds me of these scrubs:

And this is meant as a compliment as I love scrubs.

My either comment is regarding the Charon insignia. I think it might be a little bit too busy with having all three department signs. I like the rest :)

So it has been quiet here for some time, been working on a project in the background (see below) and will be working on different templates for the uniforms, experimenting before putting them up.

I hope I don't get in trouble for reopening a slow thread...

This is the Ranger Class Refit Block II as modeled by BasillArt seen at this link: https://starstation.wordpress.com/my-art/starship-uss-mustang-ranger-class-scout/

This is my first MSD and I was definitely thankful I completed a smaller ship. Very interested to see thoughts and comments about this. It is set in the TWOK era, hence the shuttles and division colours.

Having worked on it for so long I find it hard to move on to another project, or back to Temporal Threads! Like finishing a good book really..

Again, another fantastic artwork. Illustrator? I'd love to know how you did it, it's rare to see something so detailed and crisp. How long did it take you?

I'm not a fan of the Ranger-class, but this is a great MSD. A chill 60s/70s arboretum/lounge, dancing (OK, so on closer look it's just someone having a shower - possibly while dancing), and a wallaby (or small kangaroo)!! I think I could stand to ship out on Heimdall :)

I did the whole thing in Illustrator, I now am more comfortable with that program than Photoshop which is what I started learning all those years ago.

I have fallen in love with the design, something more appealing to me to smaller scout designs, no real redundancies and less personnel to cover positions. I would happily pay money for a trek series on a ship like the Heimdall..

Ah yes I had some stock photos that I took a long time ago and decided to use them to give a higher level of detail for the people/personnel on the MSD.

I love the old retro designs from Star Trek the motion picture, and just retro-futurism in general, hence the funky furniture.

Being from Australia I wanted to add an Easter egg that meant something to me, hence the Kangaroo.

Thanks for the feedback everyone :)

You took the exact same path I did! :) It gets easier, the more you use it. I now prefer AI over AP, as it's easier for me to make infinitely-scalable illustrations in AI first and rasterize them in AP later, as needed. I haven't gotten there yet myself, but there are some real AI masters out there, who have created photo-realistic paintings using gradient meshes everywhere. Here is one gallery I've found - a beautiful example of what can be done and a great target to acquire a mastery-level goal. If you do a search for "photorealistic vector art", you'll find all kinds of stuff out there.

Wow been quiet on here lately. I hope everyone is doing ok with the current situation.

I have been on a bit of a Star Wars bender lately, and I didn't feel appropriate to post on a Star Trek forum... But now getting back on the main focus of Temporal Threads, Starfleet! The difficulty with such a mammoth task is being distracted and going down a rabbit hole of designs, this week is Enterprise era patches!

This is for a ship named Kepler, NCC-17. Little unsure with whether the entire NX line should have NX registries or star the NCC convention. The Kepler is a Columbia class variant designed by Doug Drexler for season 5 of ENT. A personal favorite design of mine.

I intend on doing a few more to flesh out my beta canon inspired designs, other departments of Starfleets early days etc.

Excellent work, as usual. I love the mission patch and look forward to more.

Just putting up a preview of some more uniforms in the pipeline currently. Having a great deal of fun creating patches for this lineup, however need some inspiration, I would be keen for some suggestions and I will pick my favourite and make up a patch. Thinking not just 'ship' assignment patches but organisations within the Fleet, another one I have in the pipeline is a 'Starfleet Expeditionary Division' for personnel who are assigned to long term exploration of discovered planets.

Once I have enough done I intend on creating a full uniform progression chart, including those featured in Pacific201 and other fan productions/designs (That make sense from a design perspective).

Descriptions...

Left: Starting with the standard uniform seen on the run of Enterprise, the standard utility. I love this design as a clear progression between current day utilities and an evolution to the Uniforms seen on the Original Series of Star Trek.

Center Left: The uniform seen in ST:ENT: These are the Voyages, the season finale of Enterprise. Never got the point of the Epaulets in this iteration, they don't hold rank or any other identifier. Only thing I can think they could be used for is to pull an unconscious person from danger, but with that in mind I feel they should be more sturdy. Addition of the Name patch lends to the notion that Starfleet was becoming a bigger organisation, or through trials through the (unseen) Romulan War where replacements may be brought in at short notice.

Center Right: Speaking of the Romulan War, this uniform is for Auxiliary personnel who may have not received formal or extensive Starfleet training, but pressed into service to assist with the War effort. These personnel could fill non-essential roles or assist and would be identified easily with this variant of the Jumpsuit. The Patch for Starfleet Auxiliary is inspired by the patch worn by the crew of the Antares (ST:TOS: Charlie-X), who are implied to be a component of a 'Merchant Marine' type organisation, similar to the Auxiliary forces seen here.

Right: The Starfleet Academy jumpsuit seen here is virtually identical to that worn by Sim in ST:ENT: Similtude, just with the addition of the Starfleet Academy patch and divisional coloured name tag. This one made sense to me, due to the fact that both people seen to wear this uniform are younger and not part of Starfleet. This could also be considered a Provisional uniform.

Hope everyone is keeping well through these trying times!

I like your use of the Antares patch shape for Starfleet Auxilliary - nice to see, and very effective.
I'm wondering if there would be something like a FIrst Contact Dept/Diplomatic Corps division in the fledgling Starfleet that might need a patch...?
