Ted McGinley

Christ, when I saw Ted McGinley's name as the thread title, I thought he had died!

I liked Steve better but I had no problem with Jefferson. I don't think MWC jumped the shark until the eighth season, three years after Jefferon's introduction.
Agreed. The show ran out of steam when the writers ran out of ideas. In its last couple of years, MWC just wasn't funny anymore. It crossed the line from good bad taste to bad bad taste.

When Seven was introduced. Worst character ever. I'm talking Brady Bunch Cousin Oliver terrible.

Didn't Seven, Peg's mother, Peg's (and Marcy's) pregnancy all pretty much disappear? (I know Peg's pregnancy disappeared mostly because of the actress' real-life miscarriage)

Seven disappeared without being written out. Didn't he appear on a milk carton as a joke later on?

The pregnancies were written out as being a dream.

Yeah, he did.

What about Peg's mother? Was she written out too? (I think moving back to her hometown or perhaps just disappearing.)

I've got to say I was never a huge fan of the show but it had it's moments. :)

Yes, that was a REALLY bad idea. Even worse than Get Smart's desperate gimmick of Maxwell Smart and Agent 99 getting married -- and having twins.

The pregnancies were written out as being a dream.
Was that an intentional ribbing of the infamous "dream season" of Dallas?

Oh, Ted, you're the Patron Saint of shows jumping the shark.

Yet, you showed up half-way through Married with Children's run and I would argue that you were the better of Al's "friends" since you were more like him than.... uh... the other guy was.

So, fellow T-BBS'ers what's your thoughts on Jefferson? Was he Married With Children's "jump the shark?" Was he a good counterpart/friend for Al? Or would you have rather that other guy stuck around?

Me? I loved Jefferson.

Jump the shark? Hell no! MWC lasted longer with Jefferson than it ever would have with or without Steve! Most of the time it was just funnier, and it was hilarious after the other No Maam losers joined in.

That's the thing. It was never about Al having just Steve or Just Jefferson. Al needed a sidekick and cronies, so the show was always funniest when he had them all, like in the earliest and latest episodes.

The funniest ep of them all was the two parter where Al and the guys were trying to install the satellite dish on his roof and the wives were taking bets on who would fall on his ass where. Pee-yourself funny!

Jump the shark? The hell you say!

Didn't Jefferson have a shaded past that may or not included work in the CIS / Yakuza?????

Yeah, IIRC, he had supposedly worked for the CIA or some similar organization.

The CIA stuff started in the prank episode with Walter Trogett, but the shadiness started back in Ted's first ep as Jefferson, where he confesses to running the land scam Al has just made the last payment on. (Jefferson to Al: "Get this...the news broke two years ago, and can you believe it, some of the truly stupid are still making payments!")

Ted McGinley saved that show!

There was nothing wrong with Max & 99 getting married, it was fated to happen. There was one that was a stinker, though; Mission:Impossible's having domestic missions in the United States fighting the 'The Syndicate'. This, to me is evidence that Mission:Impossible had jumped the shark (and why I'm downloading the later seasons off of Bit Torrent instead of renting them); a covert branch of the CIA doing domestic spy work? On the Mob?. Why not go after a technological cartel similar to AIM, or organizations like HYDRA, SPECTRE, or THRUSH? That's more silly to me than Ted McGinley coming on board a show, or Max & 99 getting married. Also, this idea is just bullshit made up by the 'Jump The Shark' website solely because the guy has a hate-on for McGinley.

Perhaps, but the twins were a stupid idea. ONE baby would have been a stupid idea. This wasn't I Love Lucy. How do you write a couple of infants into a spy spoof?

And after Max and 99 were married, don't you think he should have started calling her by name? The gimmick of his continuing to address her as “99,” and introducing her to strangers only as “Mrs. Smart,” was just annoying.

And I know there was an episode in which 99 gave her name as Susan Hilton. However, at the end of the ep, she said it wasn't her real name.

No relation to THOSE Hiltons, I assume.
