Spoilers Ted Lasso - Season 2 Discussion

One of my most anticipated shows of this year will be coming back on the 23rd to Apple TV+. I was surprised how much I loved this series last year and I really would love to discuss it. Also, considering how much of a hit it is, I figured start a thread and see where it goes.

Next weekend I'm going to rewatch Season 1. I really haven't forgotten much of the show, but it is always a good refresher. I still think the scene where Ted forgives Rebecca at the end of season 1 was one of the most wholesome things I saw in 2020, and it's why I compare this show to The Good Place. It's a mood lifter, and Sudiakis does a great job in the lead.

Over the weekend I was rewatching the series to get ready for Friday and it was just as good the second time as the first. I forgot they brought up the whole goldfish thing in the second episode and then ended the season on that very same theme. It actually made a ton more sense why Richmond lost and it still ended the season on a pretty positive note. I think the thing that struck me on this rewatch was how great of a coach Ted was. It wasn’t about the game (even though making Nate the assistant helped in on that too) but it was coming in and changing the culture and even changing the boss. I still think that scene where Ted forgives Rebecca is the best thing I saw in 2020.

Can’t wait till season 2.

Great first episode. I do think they might have overdone it with some of the pop culture references though, but it was still a ton of fun. I loved Dani in this episode. Football is Life, Football is Death, and Football is Football.

Roy swearing every other word in front of Pheobe made me go hmm.

They must've had to shoot this season differently because of Covid because those green screen shots during the games are painfully obvious this time around.

Binged the first season last night and caught up with season 2 today.

That show is something else. I love dramas, sometimes the darker the better but this one is the complete opposite and i'm amazed by it. It's so funny and heartfelt, it's like a cozy blanket in the winter while outside the world is in a storm - sometimes you just need some positivity and Ted Lasso brings that in spades.

Now i have something to look forward to each week.

I need to rewatch the second episode. It was very well recieved, but I wasn't entirely a fan of it. The best parts were Roy (Keeley watching the retirement) and then his appearance on the news show and Jamie coming back to Richmond was an interesting twist. I'm still not really warming up to the psychiatrist, but I hope rewatching these two episodes it will help me see what other people have been seeing.

What a wonderful, brilliant, heartfelt show.

Jamie Tartt (do do do do do do) returning is great.
Coach Nate is great.
Coach Beard is great.

The whole goddamn thing is just...salve for a weary soul.

I would say if you don't like this show, you must be a total square, but...

I rewatched episode 2 last night, and I loved it a lot more on the rewatch. The third episode though was the best episode of the season so far. I love Roy Kent on the Soccer Saturday show, and Nora was a great character. Sam is way too pure and he should be protected at all costs. That was a powerful moment with the taping of the Jerseys. Also, Led Tasso was hilarious.

I wish i had the courage to sign my business emails like that Another wonderful episode with a social centre storyline, i hope it's not a story of the week type but continues to be a part of that season ( if i were a Dubai Air manager i couldn't let that slide).

I binged the show over the weekend, finally pulling the trigger on it after one of my favorite podcasts, "Space the Nation" (discussions of science fiction through a political and social science lens) decided to add a Ted Lasso mini-discussion at the end of every episode because the world makes them sad. I can see why everybody loves it so much. I especially appreciate the short season, I don't typically enjoy binging, which is why I haven't caught up on a lot of other beloved shows from recent years, but this was a lot more manageable.

Which means it's only a matter of time before Fox News rips into it for being un-American.

Once again an amazing and utterly warm episode, i just love the show and it's quickly become my current favorite show.

The Christmas episode was pure delight.

I loved this episode. When Keely and Roy were smelling Phoebe's breath, I was cracking up the whole time. I don't care if it was August. It was a Wholesome Christmas episode that put me in a great mood.

Roy Kent is an amazing character. Loved that ending, even though I'm slowly starting to feel bad for Nate. He gains confidence at the restaurant but now that look he gave to Roy makes me think he's worried about being replaced.

Last week, the friend I was watching the show with (well, bingeing, the first time for him) convinced me that Roy Kent was being set-up to be the next coach. So imagine our surprise when it wasn't the end of the show, it was the end of the next episode.

Nate's attitude is personally resonant for me. I was pretty consistently bullied as a kid, and went mad with power when a kid showed up who was even more pick-on-able than I was, until another kid who'd known me for a while and was about one rung higher on the social ladder than I was called me out on it. He doesn't really know how to be assertive, or to exercise his power with discipline. That's cute when the ball-boy is roasting all the star players, but now that he's started to get some respect, he doesn't know how to handle it. We're less than halfway through the season, granted, so I'm hoping everything that's been going on with him ends up being less meandering than it has been and coheres into some kind of an arc by the end.

I'm pretty sure it will and it'll be a nice progression for Nate though i wonder why a team needs 4 coaches? There's the main coach ( in Britain also called the manager), his assistant coach (Coach Beard) and then i believe some specialty coaches for condition/strength, technical skills etc yet we never saw Nate doing something special during training.

One thing i noticed and it may be a red herring - does anyone think Rebecca and Ted are flirting with each other on Bantr ( that dating app in the show) without them knowing it? In one scene she makes a bold comment on it and immediately in the next cut we see Ted reading something on his phone and smiling.
It could be an intentional misdirection but what if not?

I'm not sure what to think of it - they have become very good friends mainly due to Ted being so insufferably positive it's hard not to like him but them becoming a couple? I don't know.
