Tecteun (Spoilers)

Tom

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I noticed that in 'The Timeless Children' they said that Tecteun spliced the regeneration ability into the Timelords with a 12 regeneration limit. That"s fine, but what of Tecteun her/himself? She should have unlimited regenerations just like the Doctor, and therefor may still be out there.

That said, could Tecteun be the Master? The Master, like the Doctor, had his memory's wiped and was placed with the Doctor as a child. This would explain the close connection between the two. We also saw the Tecteun got a bit dark when trying to discover the secret to regeneration, so he/she could be on the darker side, just like the Master. Of course, this does not explain the Master running out of lives in Tom Bakers era. There could be a reason for that, the Master, for all he knew only had 13 lives, and maybe botched up something with his that regeneration. We do see the Master always survive though, maybe Tecteun had some more special abilities obtained over the centuries, This may also explain how Missy could regenerate to Darwan's Master, etc..

The episode is called 'The Timeless Children' (plural!) so it could be describing the Doctor and the Master. Who knows?

I don't see how they could have made it any more obvious, other than outright saying it: Tecteun is Rassilon.

Yup, that was my reading of it, too.

Besides, I just figured the kid that was fighting with the Timeless Child was actually The Master before he was The Master.

I posted a link on one of the other threads that postulaed Tecteun was the "woman in white' from The End Of Time.

She was supposedly the Doctor's mother. This way she's the Doctor's adoptive mother.

I actually had a different thought: Tecteun is the Other, and Rassilon's revisionism of the history of Gallifrey and the Time Lords is why he's thought of as the founding father of the Time Lords. Indeed, I see Rassilon, Omega, and Tecteun/the Other as forming a triad (or dare I have the chutzpah to call it a trinity?) of being the ones responsible for the various facets of the Time Lord ways. Tecteun/the Other is the one who made regeneration a thing, Omega invented time travel, and Rassilon founded the Time Lords political ways and paved the way for the more corrupt and douchebag side of Time Lord society.

Now that you lay it out that way, that makes a lot more sense. Don't know if that's what Chibnall intended, even if there are obvious Cartmel master plan overtones, but that works for me.

Well Rassilon is still out there since he was exiled from Gallifrey in Hell Bent. So maybe we will see.

What if the explanation is something else?

The Master is the child, and The Doctor is Tecteun. It would explain why The Master is so evil... being experimented on endlessly would make anyone cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.

And it would explain why The Doctor has always been such a strong proponent of helping... a way to redeem herself for what she put the child through. Just look at how often Tennant said "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

If the Master were really someone as important to the Time Lord's way of life as the Timeless Child seems to be, I see no reason why he would lie about it and claim it was really the Doctor.

I still fails to see the point to end a season with such groundbreaking revelations about the Doctor only to go back next season and say "yeah, not like that at all." It's no different than pressing the reset button.

This idea completely smacks of trying to deny and spin the facts of what happened because you don't like them.

This is the story Chibnall wanted to tell, and he told it; now we wait for the narrative fallout.

I don't mind it if The Doctor is indeed the child. I was just theorizing about another possibility. We still have at least one more season with Chibnall and Jodie, so I'm hoping all the rest of the threads get tied up.

Like who those creatures were in the season premiere... I figured they might actually be the original incarnation of The Doctor's species.

Ok. Like I said, though, the divisive response to what Chibnall chose to do with these revelations colors your wording and could give off the wrong impression.

My love affair for Doctor Who waxes and wanes with my attention span and so I've seen but a handful of both the new series and the classic series, but I'm strongly considering just blowing through NuWho from start to finish if HBO Max launches on schedule.
